Thread: Suggestions for a secondary profession

Well I'm about halfway through the rifle spec box and I'm loving it. Now i'm starting to think about my secondary profession and just looking for one that will compliment a rifleman nicely. I was going to go with swordsman but I find myself never having to draw my axe so far, I imagine I won't be needing this much in PvP?

I have considered Creature handler or bio-engineer but having no pvp experience in this game I'm wondering, would having some big hulking creature following me around really make sniping as hard as it seems?

The only other option I can see I guess is master medic just to keep myself healed up in the field. Just curious if anyone has any other suggestions.

Pick up the Exploration line in the Scout profession for the Terrain negotiation and Burst Run Efficiency bonuses.

Yeah, scout experience is great as burst run is essential; If my first two round of shots hit for low damage, or, God forbid, miss entirely, I need to make like Carl Lewis and get out of range. The 2hd Sword is the best secondary comp. battle skill for a sniper IMHO since you can stand your ground in a charge and countinue to dish out brutal mind/head damage. I also like CH as a side profession, as you can then get your pet to block the charge and tangle up the target while you fall back to sniper range and finish them off...

If you plan on hunting NPCs only, and want to be able to solo higher up mobs. I would suggest, swordsman or TKA as secondary, then medical/scout as your last options.

But if you plan on PvP, with a rifle, melee tends to not get to you. Therefore, things like medical and scout (explorfor being able to run up hills better to get away from enemies).

no in pvp you do need close range combat or a pistoleer will work you...i suggest 2h sword because you get mind attacks way before you ever would as a tk...i pvp all the time as a overt rebel and a novice rifle....and im telling you close range combat is needed not for meelee but for pistol packers

Then your PvPing wrong, what kind of sniper lets people get close to them? Especially if your PvPing alone. In a group I understand, I run around with 2 other rifleman. We straight out own everything in our paths. We dont worry about things getting close to us. Plus one of is a combat medic, and I have Pharm 4. Even when I solo, I dont let anything get close to me. If your fighting people 5vs1, of course people are gonna get close to you. But 5vs1, you should either be praying, or hoping they dont have burst run up and you do.

In PvP, full melee is going to be a bad way to go. Unless you use melee as a flanking team, melee has a hard enough time getting close to people. If a melee is charging me, Im not about to sit there and let him charge me. Think about it group wise, then think about it solo. Melee isnt a very good option pvp. If your charging someone in a group, good luck getting there before they put you in the dirt. If your charging some solo guy, hope he sits there and doesnt move I guess? Or hope he has Swordsmen as a secondary skill, so you possably have a chance.

With the right rifle, you can 1-2 shot people. Especially melee, and especially since half the people arent wearing armor.

Sorry about posting twice, couldnt find an edit button.

The subject of this thread is relevant to one of my questions, but we didnt get enough diversity of answers. Lets consider primary/secondary prof combos for both PvPers and non-PvPers.

I like Rifleman / Ranger as a supporting role in a hunting group. Traps can be thrown at 40m so you can remain fairly close to your ideal shooting range when you go in to throw one. Sonic Pulse causes Dizzy and Stun and works 90% of the time as a master ranger. Phencanine Darts are usually successful and slow the target to an incredibly slow speed. There is also a trap that completely stops the target, but it usually fails for some reason. Not to mention the burst run efficiency, terrain negotiation, and CAMO.

Not to mention the burst run efficiency, terrain negotiation, CAMO, and increased crawl speed, allow you to infiltrate any hostile environment, and you can escape the rampage of any beast (besides a krayt or giant dune kimo, which are lightning fast).

Having said all of that, I'm interested in trying out another secondary profession, so I might give CH or Doctor a shot. One of my buddies swears by a master rifleman / master doctor combo. Free buffs all the time allowing you to wear a set of comp all the time. Not bad. Now if I could give myself mind buffs....

Try Rifleman/Combat Medic. If you master both you wont have any skill points left but you will be feared in PVP and will do great in PVE.
