Thread: carbs or riflfe

Hello,


I just play with my brother, who is making a melee fighter so I always have a tank.I want to do a ranged prof and I was wondering what the pros and cons are about rifles vs carbines. I don't have a lot of post CU experience, but I rememeber that riflles used to be pretty strong but it was hard if your enemy got up close. I was a MC for awhile before the CU but the profession seemed unequal to other combat profs. Now it looks like a lot of carbineer issues were fixed and it seems like a fun class. What would you do in this situation?

So far I have a carbineer and a 3/4 done rifle tune. Rifle is stronger then carbines but carbines to me has better moves. Generally rifles has greater range by 15 meters but the dxr6 carbine is the exception equal range. To me basically is a toss up carbines has a snare and a kd rifles has startle which prevents them from using their weapon and has cover conceal which i havent had a chance to use yet cause im working that line now. Personally I like carbineer, but I dont think you cant really go wrong either way.

Id say Rifles because they are leathal to jedi (1k damage with improved headshot) and I can beat just about any other ranged proffession mainly because rfiles have the damage. I also love the high range of them (i use cybernetics to make my T21 fire at 85 meters :smileyvery-happy and I love conceal for jeid hunts (im a BH)

is the cybernetic arm allowing you to shoot 85m really?

hmmm + 5 range would make max range 70m but when we tested in TC-EP3 it allowed carbines the extra distance and the pistols the extra distance but nothing could shoot farther then 64m.

Again I ask are you sure it is firing 85m? If it is it may be an unintended side effect so do not get to attached to that arm (he he he - sorry that sounds funny)

I can't speak for being able to hit at 85m (+20 ranged distance? Yikes!) but I can definitely confirm the +5 Ranged Distance cybernetic arm will let you shoot a T-21 at a range of 70m. While not a Rifleman special, Stopping Shot at 70m is so immensely cruel to melee opponents that I'd be shocked if it doesn't get removed. Either the root or the additional range.

"Regular" Ranged Shots will work at that range, too. And again, specials from other professions - Spray Shot and Fan Shot - will hit any opponents within your 70m range.

I don't PvP, but expect the little kiddies who do will start crying soon as more people manage to make their way through the quest (it's not a particularly hard quest for a Level 80).



As for the original poster - what kind of melee fighter is your friend going to be? Regardless, Rifles is good for doing a lot of damage to a single opponent, but you can VERY EASILY pull opponents away from your tank by doing too much damage to them that they lose interest. I've been out hunting with Jedi and I can outdamage them quite easily with just the "Ranged Shot" ability.

Carbines it is a little harder to do so, since you fire faster but for less damage. Or that's the theory. Carbines also has area attacks, which are handy for mowing down hordes of annoying, low level creatures.


Either way, you could consider teaming either profession with Bounty Hunter, since the specials from it are very useful with both sets of weapons (and you get two carbines to use).

Or, you could just take Carbines AND Rifles, which would give you the very best bits of both sides of the coin. Area attacks, high damage weapons, long range when you need it, etc.

Reading that back, I realise I should clarify: Rifleman specials will work at 70m as well, it's just that most of the specials I use are not Rifleman specials (Rifleman/BH/Pistoleer).


*WHEN* I can get it to work, I can indeed use Snipershot (and the useless Conceal Shot) at 70m. Improved Stopping Shot at 70m, Advanced Sniper Shot, Advanced Critical, Improved Head Shot, wait for stopping shot to wear off, Improved Underhand Shot, Advanced Critical, Advanced Sniper Shot for the win!

oh and I looked at my left arm and now it says +5m range. I guess iv been nerfed


EDIT: I still have my +10 range arm so my max range is now 80m. the +10 arm is from doc kinesworthy and the +5 rnage is from some rodian in teh bestine cantina

Is a screenshot of the +5 arm myself and Vaddo have.

Will see what I can do about a screenie of firing at 70m. Not sure how that will be proof though? There're ways people could fake that if they wanted.
