Hi,

I'm starting a new character and have some ideas I'd like to run by the masses...
I wanted to go master rifleman - not to far into novice right yet however,
I like melee too, like to have a nice weapon to finish a mob off with after my gun weakens him quite nicely...
Now in looking at the brawling skill tree I notice that the 2h weapons line is your mind damage line for brawler class...
You think it would be a good idea to be a master swordsman and a master rifleman or would those points spent in the brawling / swordman line just be a waste.
My thinking is that I could really do some damage if something somehow get's up close - since I would assume their mind pool will already be well depleted from my rifle shots....

Any comments on this?

I'm also planning on a combo of Medic and Scout to round out my character - thinking I could bump both of these up quite a bit without brawler, unless my plan above sounds like a better one....

I'm a master heavy swordsman/master rifleman. The only problem is your stat migration is kinda difficult due to the quickness/mind stuff. But, it's not too hard to overcome. The 2nd problem you'll find is that, rifles eat your mind so fast. I shoot a strafe2 for 105 mind I think, and I have 900 mind total. Basically after I'm done shooting and rush in to kill whatever's left with my sword, I'm already dead lol. So you have to figure out how to use your combo properly. I pretty much already know how to use them both together pretty well, but you have to figure that out for yourself ^_^.

The "secret" to Rifle/2H and the Mind stat loss from special attacks is to get a weapon with experimented Mind cost way low, and then get some power ups to bring it down even more. The T-21 is a killer, but the Spraystick is worse, because it is so fast. Rifleman use Mind pool more than any other Combat class, so a Mon Calamari or Zabrak may be best. Wookies are great too, because even if you max out the Mind pool, and the two that govern it, you still have a lot to play with... not so with Mon Cal and Zabrak. I'm a Rodian though... so I didn't follow my logic at all.

Yeah 2h does a nice job of lopping the head off from up close. Note though that it's ONLY good against creatures. NPC's and PvP, the dude will just run around. hard to chase guys with an axe I've found.

Your plan sounds almost the same as mine. Put a bit into the scout tree, you'll need the burstt run effciency to out run the freinds of the guy you just sniped.

Also, perversely enough, take artisan as your starting profession, you get a boost to Mind skills.

Seriously.
