Thread: Don't you think Riflemen should have a higher max range?

I'm not complaining, I love my rifleman, it's a really fun class. I was just thinking that maybe we should havea longer range. It does kinda suck getting knocked down as soon as the enemy finds you in PvP. Also, how do you get knocked down when you're already prone?

I think 64 meters is plenty. The problem is at around 64meters a pistol, carbine, rifle are all equal in accuracy. Since pistoleers get higher accuracy modifiers from the bh tree and they can hit better while moving they are able to hit more often at the extreme "or nonideal ranges" then a rifle would.

Range is fine. It is the to hit modifier that is fubar.

The 64m mark is constrained by game design and networking issues.. what needs to be done is reduce pistol max range to 32m and carbs to 48m.. Its my impression that changing wep accuracy wont work, as by masterlevel most players will get a +50 accuracy on targets at all ranges...if not they might as well increase melee range to 64m as well to be fair - if they are not gonna follow their game design rationale for the ranged weps thenthey might as well throw the whole bloodything completely out the window

The 64 max range wouldn't be so bad if I couldn't snipe from that distance with my pistol. They need to put alot more leverage in the range modifiers. I suppose since almost every gun is shooting out some kind of beam or other non-solid "projectile", no weapon should have a longer max distance it can shoot; a laser blast doesn't just stop in mid-air or arc to the ground. But there has to be some accounting for the difference in accuracy between a one-hand-held pistol and a two-arm-cradled rifle, as well as for the difference in damage potential from rifles being bigger and having more juice. And there should be better scopes that are certain-rifles-only that add more of a sniper element by really tightening up aim.

As for the bonus of hitting a non-healable Mind pool, I find the whole concept of different pools for different gun sizes pretty hokey. A laser pistol and a laser rifle should do the same kind of damage, but with differing intensity and accuracy. It should be the particular type of weapon (energy vs heat vs whatever) that determines which pool is damaged.

I just submitted an email to their enhancement dept about this same thing. To maybe keep the range we have but to seriously limit pistoleers to low range only and carbineers to mid-range. Phhhhfft... Like they will even read it. I'm sure they have one of those drinking birds hiting the delete key for every email that comes in.

Yes we should have larger range. It's reasonable and it's realistic as we've covered in COUNTLESS threads.

It would solve many, many of our horrible problems like x3 melee damage and useless melee defense and stutterstepping.

If we actually had a real chance to kill creatures before they were able to reach us then we wouldn't have to rely on a separate class of weapon (or unarmed) to survive in the game. 64m just isn't enough. It takes like 3 seconds for a mob to cover it and instantaneously if they are teleporting which they often are.

Yes I'm tired of being incapped by low level creatures, I'm just lucky to do enough damage with hs2 sometimes.

In order to maintain balance, I think an idea of a new type of rifle whose certification is available in the Sniping Accuracy Line. It should have a high maximum range (say 128 feet), high damage, but high delay, and it should have a minimum range. (Can't shoot at all iftarget closer than say... 32 feet) Perhaps so people don't get pissed off about balance, maybe make it so it can only be fired from prone.

I believe that they have already indicated that the 64m range is hardcoded in and can't be changed. Nice thinking there.

Personally, I have always loved the idea of different guns having different max ranges, with rifles ranging up to 100, carbines to 75, and pistols to 64. However, from what I have seen I don't know that we will ever see this happen, so I would settle for the accuracy bonuses throughout the 64m range getting balanced.
Why even have a max range stat on the guns when they are all 64m? Seems a little bass-ackwards to me...
