Sharpshooter doesn't mea you a sniper it means your highly aurate with your gun. Its called a sharpshooter cause the marksmen of the union army used sharps rifles, so thus the shrapshooter title

Don't you also have a "Soldier" title you could use? Think of the roleplay aspect.

Master Rifleman here and my overhead title says "Novice Scout". Boy do I love being considered an easy kill.

Reb: You are wrong about the meaning of the word sharpshooter. This word exists in many languages and the meaning can be several things.

The most commom understanding of sharpshooter is either.

a) a very accurate shot.

b) a person firing with live ammo.

I could explain, but it will be a boring read and take a long time.

Trust me on it

your a sniper not a soldier. if you want to be a soldier go be a commando.

rifle has three lines that are dedicated to sniping. it is obvious the intent for rifles was to lay back and take out single enemies really well and disrupt the actions of larger groups.

I believe RebRifle was discussing etymology of the word sharpshooter (I hope). Trying to look it up myself, I find use of the word sharpshooter long before the civil war (OED has use of the word as early as 1802). It seems to have always had the "highly accurate aim" definition.

This was on of my favorite late night posts.

I still and always will strongly believe that Rifleman is not a sniper. Considering the warp/pathing problems of mobs/terrainand the lack of ability to jam radars or hide your visablity in pvp (cover shot don't count) the "Sharpshooter" profession is in fact a stronger more rounded form of the military infantry. Rifleman would be closer to a soilder with an M60 in Nam (the Rambo gun :smileytongue. However, the developers compacted sniping abilities into the profession rounding it out more. Thus the reason for Strafe, Flush, Starle, and their area effect upper skill levels, etc. Those of us that have tried"camping" in shouldPVP understand.

Putting all other considerations aside, "Master Rifleman" sounds really weak when compared to the "Sharpshooter" counterpart.

Or at least, it seems like they could have made the title sound stronger.

My brother is in the army (well, he is in college ROTC, but he's heading that direction) and they have to qualify with weapons. Sharpshooter is on of the highest, ifnot the highest, ranks there, and this doesn't have anything to being a sniper. I'm not sure, but I think the same ratings apply to pistols also. So, being a master sharpshooter means that you don't miss, not that you're a sniper. So the only problem I see with the title is the fact that (from what I hear, since I haven't gotten very far into rifleman yet...stupid career changes) Riflemen miss so often, instead of bullseye almost every time. Anyway, thats just my two cents.
