What's with the 90* downward turn of the tip of the barrel?

ive always thought it is a handle of sorts, not so much of a traditional barrel...
either way, it does look slightly odd.

Go prone in a fairly level area, then take a look at your character from 3rd person. It looks to me like the protrusion is a support for the barrel so that it rests level with your character's line of sight. Makes sense; the rifle is supposed be a heavy weapon designed for long-distance precision fire, after all.
So, I don't think it'sa graphics bug. It was probably designed that way, and it looks ok if you know what it's there for.

It's a bug, it displays the normal barrel-tip graphic pointed 90 degrees down. It sort of looks like a support with certain barrel types but with others it'squite obvious that it's not supposed to be like that.
Laser rifle scopes were also oriented the wrong way until publish 5.
