After being a Master Commando for some time now, I am thinking of dropping it and switching to rifleman. What I want to know is if this is a good move? Commando is currently broken right now (HAR doesn't work, exp cap at 2k hurts my grind toward jedi, proton grenades kill you more than your target, and dot's don't stack), but I simply love the flamethrower. Can a T-21 easily out damage a Flamer? Is this profession useful in PvE? Is it good for grinding Jedi exp? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

A T-21 easily outdamages a flamethrower, as the Heavy AP and the speed riflemen can fire T-21's generally yield a higher DPS.

PvE with rifleman is all good, except against a few Nightsisters with 100% armor to all our damage types, but thats why you have 250 skill points. Half the time you can off a lair before the creatures/NPCs realize you are firing at them.

Grinding Jedi XP, cant help you there. Too lazy to do that grind

Good luck.

Hi Hexes,

I've played since day 5 or so and my first proffestion was Master Commando I've stuck with it until about 2 months ago. I'm now Master Rifleman.

Yes it is possible for a T21 to outdamage a Flamer but I have found that PvE is "slower" as rifleman then commando. I didn't say worse but its very different. Don't get caught up in the DPSnumbers, they only tell half the story.

In my opinion you can grind mission much more rapidly as a master commando then asamaster rifleman. With good Composite and a decent flame thrower. The T21 has alot of disatvantages the flamer does not.. Any creature you shoot is going to attack you at some point at point blank range, not true for NPC"s but creatures are I think a bigger part of PVE for most people. You can conceal shot all day long but you are going to go though missions at a snails pace compared to a master commando. With Commando you can fire at 0 range and get ainstant15k hit plus the Dot with Flame single 2 (depending on your flamer stats and the resists of what your shooting). But It was common for me.I don't watch the combat tab often but I've gotten 19k hits from that range as well. You won't be doing that with a T21. hehe

Say for instance your grinding missions, and you are trying to do them rapidly that takes conceal shot out of the picture for the most part.So now your going to have creatures attacking you at point blank range. At 0 range the point blank modifier all rifles have will hurt your damage output. You can buy power ups to reduce this. You will have to constantly stop to powerup your weapons. Also even with a 33% mind cost reduction power up and brandy you will ( if your going fast) deplete your mind pool eventually and again have to pause. Also the HAM costs are very high for specials, Strafe 2 can only be done when your fully buffed for any extended period of time. Thats also the best non mind pool attack we have in terms of damage output. it takes mainly from your healthand action.

Compare this to your flame thrower and you have a weapon that requires power ups almost constantly. A weapon that has nothing even approching the fire Dot of the flamethrower. You can equal or exceeeda flame thrower over the short term. But your days of soloing higher level creature missions quicklywithout a buff will mostly be over. With the flame thrower you can easly solo high level mobs without a buff assuming you have good composite.

I love Rifleman and for PvP it beats Master Commando. But if your solo grinding missions for your money you will complete missions faster at less cost to you as a Master Commando. Its probably possible to equal a commando in terms of mission grinding speed being speed capped and haveing exceptional weapons. But why spend all the money if you can do it already for free as Master Commando. Clothing wears out and weapons degrade but your fire dot is forever!!

This is just my experiance with Commando vs Rifleman. On the up side you get alot of new specails ability to dizzy and stun ect. Its just very different. If I had the choice between the two for PVE only I'd pick Master Commando anyday.

Good Luck! and Stay Commando!

I liked the flame thrower very much, and there are stilltimes I miss it. Looking at your post about broken skill trees, and the FT line being the only useful one in commando... have you considered just keeping FT4, and mastering rifles? Strafe 2, until the Mob gets close, then switch to FT and clean up. Not knowing the rest of your template, it's hard to say, but the damage rifles can dish out is pretty extreme. People think of those huge numbers FT's put up, but Rifles start the mayhem 64m out, not 15.

I think it's largely a matter of play style, and preference. In my experience, you can solo nearly anything with master rifleman, if you have the patience. Of course, the same was true of commando with fiegn death.

As far as grinding FS exp, with master commando, you have the ability to use proton grenades. Capping combat exp is very easy using high level grenades, and combat exp is where it's at to gain FS exp.

Thanks for all the help guys, unfortunetly I had to drop master commando earlier toady anyways (due to the lack of skill points needed for FS skills), thereforeI have decided to go master rifleman anyways. This way I can drop most of the marksman tree and the unarmed section of the brawler tree and have a ton of more points to do as I wish with. I agree that the flamer would probably be overal better for PvE (I remeber when I did 52k dmg to a empty lair once lol), but the combat cap hurts my exp grind, and buying thousands of grenades wouldn't work for me now anyways since I dropped master commando (no proton grenades)and it would also cost tons of money to buy all those crates. Although, I do have another question about rifleman just before I totally drop commando, if I master rifleman..... how many more speed attachments will I need to get speed capped? Thanks again for all the help everyone.

i've been MRifle before MCommando... and i must say commando is does the same amout of damage in the same amout of time... the HAR blows, no use really... the rockets are fun to play with, but get expensive... the 3k Heavy weapons exp cap hurts, but can more than be made up for with grenades...

use them correctly and the combat exp rolls in...

also don't hunt on dath or dant... do mutated kumurra's on talus they are 3k exp for any weapon, one hit with the FT easy kill... that and there are plentiful wild spawns around (unlike dant)... without trying i capped heavy weapons and 200k combat exp in less that a mind buff...

plus i like not having to be mind buffed, full on brandy and asheia (sp)... with commando i don't need anything for the mind...

now rifles are great for mass damage, strafe2 is the best in the game with a nice T21, i've never worried about WPU's, they add some but its not really needed...

keep MMarks for awhile, lose the commando then unarmed, keep MMarks till you either get FS ranged speed (which would be a waist if you are going for jedi), or you pick up a +5 or +7 speed attachment...

now get your butt up on the roof of the Hall with all the other novices

I can just see a "Wait for the Combat Revamp" and "Wait for the Smuggler Revamp" quote all rolled into one.
"Wait for the Smuggbat Revamp"
Smuggbat, I like that
