Thread: Why is proactive such a bad thing?

Why is it that posting a thread asking for people to voice their displeasure with possible upcoming changes (rumors) met with such a negative reaction? I would think people would want to make their point clear and take a stand on something BEFORE it happens rather than take a "wait and see" approach. Maybe I'm wrong? But I'd much rather show that I'm willing to bite rather than just bark. Too many times we've seen "rumors" come to pass. Even if sometimes those rumors never materialize into real subjects, why not clearly voice your opinion about them?

People keep responding with "they haven't said that's true so stop whining about it" posts, when there have knowingly been dozens of "stealth" nerfs. Just because it's not spelled out on the Developement/Updates pages doesn't mean it isn't going to take place. Yet so many people are willing to just sit back and take whatever is given to them. THEN they cry about it. I for one want to see something be averted prior to it's introduction into the live system. Once that happens you all know that there is little chance of reverting back. Even if we are able to convince them that the change needs to be removed from live, it will most likely take months to get it done.

Some people feel that if someone says some off the wall nerf they were never thinking about, if a developer sees they might do it. Thats my guess

it worked for BH's.They were pretty vocal about being opposed to eyeshot getting moved to MBH, and it never happened.

I see your point, however you are banking on the Devs actually reading your posts.

Voicing concerns is a good idea. Preaching rumor as fact is what gets people up in arms.

moving eyeshot to bh much like the rumour of a 3-second rifle speed cap was a player generated suggestion that took life all on its own. it was actually brought up by the first BH correspondent not by the devs.

as for stealth nerfs name one.

what people think stealth nerfs are, are actually bugs that had unintended effects. i dont know of a single software company that puts out notes on bugs that they are not aware of having unintended effects. when they get noticed the bugs get fixed and generally arent commented on since the fix causes the system to work as intended. sometimes the bug enhances our ability sometimes not when it enhances our ability and they fix the bug and the system starts to work as intended people yell stealth nerf when there isnt a patch note saying they fixed a non-working bit of the game that should have been working.

the other way "stealth" nerfs happen is people just dont read the patch notes or keep up to date on the fixes and changes as they happen and are addressed in the bug threads the devs put out. so the rumours of "stealth" nerfs start. a good example is patch 6 for one day no one unlocked their force slots so of course all the noobs taking a statisticaly oddity as a stealth nerf. they then yelled about it like a bunch of morons and all the while for the next two weeks people continued to post on how they opened their slots. almost a month later now and morons STILL think that jedi system has changed for unlocking...

so as for me personally i will trust the patch notes before i trust some dork posting about "stealth" nerfs the track record for dorks being right about "stealth" nerfs isnt very high.

i also want to comment on being proactive.

nothing wrong with being proactive thats what our correspondent does in their forums for us. we discuss things here he brings it to the devs. when there is something he can talk about that relates to rifles he brings it here. but being proactive on things that someone heard from a friend who got it from some kid who talked to a CSR is not something we should get worked up about...

The Dev's would never "stealth nerf" us on the speed cap. If they did something like just putting it into the Publish without anyone knowing the outcry from players would be deafening. The term "Stealth Nerf" is a matter of synmantics, some pistoleers seen the FWG5 powerhandle fix as a stealth nerf, there were a few other "Stealth Nerfs"but I can't recall them right now. Basically a stealth nerf is as Barb said it is but I feel with this added to it-They purposely don't mention the fix because they know people like the way the system currently works.

Like say they were to fix the AP system to the way the developer thought it worked, they would probably not mention it in posts and we would only realize it when it hits live.

But as Obi-wan said "Alot of truths depend on your point of view."-Paraphrased-

Actually I believed they raised HAM costs on rifle specials with last patch with it not being in the notes.

Does that count as a "stealth nerf"?

Barb, believe what you want, they did. 1000/1100/900 on my mind stats. Before that patch my OC1 shot (was still grinding back to Master at that point) was 55 mind cost. Post patch it was 59. And I'll take things I see on the correspondants forums as possible fact thank you, I'd weigh them more than a rumor I heard. Don't disrespect me by saying that I can't tell the difference between idle chitchat among disgruntled players and what I read being discussed by TH and the Correspondants.

Anyway, why are you still here? You're going BH, so go worry about killing our dear Rifle correspondant's Jedi. Obviously
you've got other things to do, so leave us be.

On the other hand, I don't know why people like Barb enjoy remaining blind to possibilities. So for all of you out there that doubt what I've said, fine. I don't care. I'll still be here when 1/2 of youguys say you'll either quit or switch. To those that are going to stick it out no matter what, you have my respect, and pray that these "rumors" are wrong.

And yes, the HAM increases count as a stealth nerf. Along with the premature cap on defenses they have put in, despite it being set for Publish 7. When a guy with Sniping 4 goes from hitting someone 1/10 times to 5/10, I tend to think something has change. But maybe that's just me. I believe in rumors and such as well, so obviously I don't know what I'm talking about.

And when the embers cool

He's right... Hate to say it but he is absolutely right.

I dont post much but i do read all the boards and i read them as much as i play swg... and i play swg alot...and if there is one thing that is constant on all boards is whining.

Not saying that anyone doesnt have the right to whine, am just saying what did it get anyone in this game so far.

Its one thing to whine ( dont do this and dont do that ) but its a totaly different thing when you have 20 + servers of just rifleman/women shouting the same message... they have to listen...

The only way to do it is like the wookies did it.... you have to show the devs that its not just or correspondant fighting the fight but all rifleman / women are willing to get out there and prove to them how much we love what we do and who we are....

And about the stealth nerf... what profession in game that has been metioned by some troll to be UBER that hasn't gotten the nerf bat to the head... name one...

Fight the good fight.. RIFLEMAN are perfect the way they are.. only thing is say.. Make us easier to hit by Melee professions but at the same time you DEVS have to improve on or accuracy while moving because that would be the only way tocompeat in PvP / PVE when youvictim closes that gap... we will have to use kitting to survive.... I say if worst comes to worst make or speed cap 2 sec...

just my take on things... i know i haven't been here as long as others but i see and read alot....
