Ok, we all want to be snipers, but how can we make it fair?
My idea is 2 main things. They add PvP use to 2 of the most useless things riflemen have.
Idea 1:
How can we snipe if the enemy can just tab over to us?
In the game, concealment allows us to fire upon the AI unnoticed. We OBVIOUSLY cannot allow this in PvP, it would be very unfair. So instead, concealment in PvP should disable the tab option for the enemy. They can still target us, but they have to find us first! This would encourage us to find some foliage or something to hide in. This is totally fair for both parties. We should be able to get off 3-4 shots before they can find us. Also if the concealment failed (like it does in PvE) the player being shot at will be notified that tab again works.
Idea 2:
Well hey, how is that going to help? They can just use their radar!
I think that the "cover" state should allow riflemen to dissapear off of the radar. It has very little defense bonuses and aiming bonuses. Allowing it to make us not appear on radar would allow us to actually be in a "covered" state. Also, this is fair, since while we are covered we have VERY limited mobility, especially if we don't have the sneak option yet.
I think these 2 changes would allow us to be snipers OR gunners and still remain fair to other players in PvP.
Let me know what you think...

Actually if you read the other threads here less then 1/2 the rifleman want to be snipers ^_^. Just thought I would point that out.
Rifleman != Sniper currently
Rifleman is currently botha pvesniper and pvp gunner. It is hard to be a sniper in a game where ranges are 0-64m only and the distance can be covered in less then 4 secs (try the new movement system on TC) Even with radar removal and tabbing disabled you are in a posture down position which means melee do massive extra damage to you if they see you. Currently you would take 1 shot and then die a horrid death.

If you can get off 2-3 shots you have a good advantage, and when they see you, it is easy to stand back up and switch to being a gunner after using your sniper tactics... The extra shots alone can be the difference.
I do agree though that the 64m limit sucks...
Another thing that pisses me off is that pistoleer's have an "eye shot", but us riflemen can only hit in the "head" area...

It makes no difference at all in large scale pvp - it would only be useful in small scale pvp. Also you would have to put a balance factor in and a means of breaking the skill in other professions.

Please see the Abriged Sniping History in my sig. Being a Sniper is not possible in SWG. And if it was, a true Sniper would be far to unbalancing.
Any kind of stealth ability in game has the potential for a great deal of griefing. Especially in PvP where it seems most of the complaints come from. Any idea for a stealth ability would also have to include a number of penalties, limitations, and counters.
If we could get off 3-4 shots before they could find us. It basically would give Rifles 3-4 free attacks without any type of repercussion. That wouldn't be very good for PvP at all.

Hhhmmm about about if they put a stealth thing in but if you attacked anyone it'd break the stealth. That's how it is in UO...It was always great to walk around invisible the only bad thing was is that rangers could find you if they had tracking. Maybe they should do that in game?

Do you think this may be treading into Ranger Profession terrain? They sure would.

Hey it'd still be cool. I loved to walk trough dungeons and walk up to treasure chest while stealthed and take everything out of them without any dragons raping me.
