Thread: Is the Ranged Support line under Marksman really worth the points...post posture change nerf?

Hi guys...

As most of you probably are... I am getting short on skill points. I got the ranged support line when suppression fire was working almost every time.

It was a must have ability. Now its resisted 90% of the time.

So...my question is...is ranged support really worth the points to a rifleman?

Thanks!

I have it up to level 3. Warning shot is a lifesaver when hunting critters. I take down red-con Humbabas on Corellia with Mindshot1, Headshot2, and Warning Shot. Hit 'em once with Mindshot, hit 'em again with Warning Shot, then wait. They'll run way out of range until the bleeding kicks in. Then they'll turn around and charge you. You can get in a Headshot when they're at 60m, then whip out the Spraystick and lay some Warning Shots on 'em as they get close and run 'em away again.

As a CH and Rifleman I almost never have to use warning shot.

The few times I have....they are so close the accuracy mods kick in and with the 2.5 dmg... I would say out of the 15 times I tried it...

It worked 2 twice. The rest of the time its two or MAYBE three hits and I am incaped. I found its better to unequipt the rifle and spam /healself damage and hope I run far enough the mob stops following.

For the amount of skill points I put into the line...I am still not sure what real use I get out of it.

Switch to a pistol. Faster refire and no melee penalty. Just make sure you use Peace after each WS.

Jambolaya.... (you from Louisiana?)

I JUST posted this a few minutes ago in a new thread, but since you just mentioned this in your previoius post here, I thought I would add it again here also....

-------------------------------------------------
I have noticed this problem several times lately and want to know if anyone else has noticed this.

Situation: I amsoloing PvE.I use the MS2, HS, MS1 + warningshot method on MOBs.

Sometimes, if any of my initial MS1, or HS, or MS2 miss, i try to get in another one before the MOB starts charging me. Often there is not enough time, so I know the MOB is going to reach me before I can get off my warning shots. I dont want to take the 2.5x melee, so I quickly hot-bar to my Pistol and fire off some warning shots.
OK, so far, so good. I yo-yo the MOB with warning shots till he bleeds to death. But SOMETIMES all I get for my trouble is the Combat XP ONLY... no rifle XP, no pistol XP. And I am well within range. I think it has to do with the fact that I went from rifle to pistol. I have found a "work around" but don't like the fact that I lost a lot of XP to this bug.

The work-around is to finish the animal off with a final Headshot (rifle)when he is almost dead. OR, to use my Spraystick for the warning shots so that I am always using a rifle-style weapon. But then I have to hope to survive the melee before I get a warning shot that sticks.
