Thread: Should Riflemen wear helmets??

Last night after a huge PVE session, during which I became a Novice Rifleman, I noticed that it was time to try and repair my Ubese armor. So I was able to repair my boots and body armor, but I failed to repair my helmet and it broke completely. So now I am without aUbese helmet. I have a Composite helmet, but there's no way I'm wearing that into battle because it encumbers my mind too badly to be any help to me. So, before I go out to purchase another Ubese helmet I was wondering if it is even going to be worth my time to do so. I don't do any PVP combat yet and I don't hunt any sort of insanely large big game yet either. So should I try to find a new Ubese helmet for PVE or go without? BTW, I'm a Zabrak, I've had my statsmigrated so thatmy mind pool is completey maxed out,and I never hunt without full Doc. buffs and a good supply of Brandy available. So helmet or no helmet, that is the question.

Thanks for your advice!

It all depends on your play style. From how I play, I dont normally keep a helmet on, but have plenty of brandy and muon for emergencies. I keep the helmet in my inventory in case my mind gets low.

If you do need another helmet, look into another ubese, unless you fight alot of NPC mobs.

Another handy little command for us Zabraks is using /equilibrium

When my mind is being attacked and my other two pools are untouched, equilibrium heals my entire mind pool without lowering the other two.

Even in PvE, when you do not wear a helmet, you are taking a big risk. The creature and NCP AI will note that you do not have on a helmet and target your head if they can. Even if they do not, any random pool hits that favor mind damage will do damage if you are not wearing a helmet. But even without that being the case, NPCs are going to start switching weapons and using specials again. That means, I would assume, that any NPC or Creature capable of targeting mind will be favoring that special against people without head protection.

With doctor buffs, brandy, and ahrisa and/or canape, there is no reason not to wear a helmet, even a Composite one. Even at Master, I wear a full composite suit even when I am just running around. When I go into battle, I just make sure I am on brandy and Ahrisa or Canape.

Thanks! Excellent advice!! I roll with a ton of Brandy as well,I don't use spice, but I suppose it could be worth my while to get one or two muons just as insurance. I don't usually attack NPC mobs unless I'm running IMP. missions for cash and FP, but I don't do that very often and when I do run them I'm always in a group. As a Rifleman there trully is safety in numbers!

No reason not to wear a helmet IMO. Its so easy to get your focus to 1600 (i think thats it, 1500 or 1600)where you can spam specials and take no damage. Ahrisa is your friend, it buffs your Focus. Musician buffs buff focus/willpower and last a good 2 hours, and if you are a human even better because you can migrate everything to your Mind/Focus/Willpower.

Why not use a helmet?

you might want to look into a encumberance slice helmet, with kinetic special protection. It wont hurt your mind secondaries as badly as a full 80%+ eff sliced helm, yet still provides decent protection against most things.

I wear full comp most of the time, use some brandy and canape and i can do almost constant specials.Use two brandy and and you can for sure do constant specials. I find that not wearing a helm is actually worse because of the mind damage you take. The only issue then is healing the HA dmg from oc shots and the like. I'm a master medic/nov cm so its not an issue for me.Medic is a good choice for almost any prof to have, even if its just so you can use stim b's that you buy.Blue milk will help you when whatever you're fighting is damaging your mind faster than it regens (it's like a mind stimpack . Have fun with rifleman, i certainly am so far.

You can get an well-sliced hemlet down to like 200 encumbarance.

I'm a zabrak, I understand the constant concerns over HAM. Brandy is good, but so is Ahisra, it lasts long like brandy, but fills your "food" instead.

But yes, always wear a helmet.

Always have a backup helmet, rifle, and chestplate.

Actually you can get a well made helmet down as far as 170+. I have 3 180's I keep in the bank with 61% base resists. For faction missions thats all you'll need but against creatures that are generally melee types like Rancor you definitely want an ubese helmet. Keep it on your hotkey list and if something charges to you clear your quene and hit the hotkey. If you're surrounded by npc's then not having a helmet is a huge risk. Even with buffs, canape, and brandy multiple hits for 400+ will get you killed fast. Most low-medium content melee type creatures are AP0 attacks so even a small amount of kinetic resist will help alot.

I'm a zabrak too I and know what you're going through. Ahrisa is your best friend. It lasts 3 times as long as canape and has more uses. It also addresses the major weakness that us zabrak have which is a 500 focus cap. Heck after I put on all of my comp my focus is 95..... 2 brandies and an enhanced ahrissa will change all of that. Keep muon hotkeyed and use it as an emergency MIND heal just in case. Its saved my butt more than a few times.

Thats a nice helmet.. does it have a good stun layer?

Mine is 202 with a 39% stun. I really don't care what the base is

Zabraks... don't forget to hotkey equilibrium as well. It'll save you arse.

by not wearing a helmit you are putting your self in great danger..the head is the second most damaged area.

when repairing stuff its hit and miss and you got unlucky for it to brake first time...but why were you repairng it in the first place? because it had taken alot of damage..which should have been your head.

as for healing up mind, after battle take ur helm off and put bak on aftre regeneration.
