Thread: Trandoshan Riflemen

I've got this new character on Lowca. I was going for the 'big game hunter' feel with him so I went Trandoshan with the intent of going Rifleman/Ranger. But I'm finding that, even with my mind attributes maxed out, I simply can't compete. I hit my specials a few times and I'm done. Creatures incapacitate me all the time, although my health and action are rarely over half empty. Is there *anything* that being a trandoshan actually offers to the rifleman profession?

I'm seriously thinking of starting fresh with a Mon Cal or Zabrak; or maybe just go human as they seem to be the only ones who get the full base 300-1000 stat range (plus racial bonus). I've never played an RPG before that didn't start all of the character races with the same base stat range and then add or subtract bonuses from that. *head shake*

The phrase "Can't have it all" comes to mind.

I am a Trando Master Rifleman, and I LOVE IT.

Get Max out Mind stats

Get full mind buff (Dancer and Musician)

Always run with 2 brandies, and keep Canape for emergencies

Don't wear armor when hunting.

Strafe 2, or conceal shot

I usually hit a constant strafe at the lair. anything that agros on me gets hit, and dies. those that don't agro heal the lair allowing the milking to continue, and then they die. thenI harvest.

I could go pistoleer with smuggler, but I just LOVE the Rifle.

Good luk, and don't ever count a trando out.

I was rifleman. I had been tka/ranger, but wanted something that kills creatures quicker. So I dropped ranger temporarily to pick up rifleman. I kept it for a while, but dropped it due to frustration. Your respondent was correct in the notion that you MUST have brandies, entertainers buffs, and canape. If you're going to wear armor, you MUST have canape or you're dead. The frustrating part is that fact. If you want to hunt on the spur of the moment, you can't without all those. Trandos are gimped in rifle with that in mind. We have great health and action secondaries though. I dropped it all and went up pistoleer/bh pistol lines and I do much better. I only use brandy when wearing my comp, which isn't often. Getting secondary action buffs are really the only thing you'd need to think of when using pistols.

2 weeks ago, I got doc buffed (12k), went for musician buffs (10k), picked up my comp armor, and headed to the geo cave (count that as ah hour of prep). I utilized 3 specials and my mind was half drained. I waited 20 seconds, and the crazed geo's fired at me and concentrated on mind. Needless to say, I got incapped and nearly DB'd if it weren't for my buddy pulling aggro. He was happily slapping them with eyeshot with his pistol and saw none of his bars depleted. This was my last straw with rifles.

My point is this: if I can't do PvE without buffs, there is no reason to play. I had to change my weapon type. Now that I'm BH, I only get buffed if I'm heading up to the corvette. Other than that, I simply heal the stats that get drained from pistol.

Thanks for that insight...

I suppose my issue is with the fact that I don't seem to make money fast enough to keep me in food and spice buffs for my mind, and I feel (perhaps wrongly) that if I take out a lair of creatures (con: white)without getting hit I should be able to do so without camping for 15 minutes halfway through. I'll concede that my lack of funds is probably also causing me to use weapons with higher HAM costs than I should have to deal with.

I don't mind buffing. I guess I just thought that was something you do when you go after critters that would normally be beyond your ability. I'll adjust my mindset and see what comes.

I didn't realize that strafe was an AOE shot (I wasn't aware that any of the rifle specials were AOE). I'll have to look into that too!

With rifleman, as a trando at least, you MUST have mindbuffs to deal more than 5-6 attacks or you're dead meat. Strafe, along with flushing shot, is AOE. I'd hit a flag for a rebel mission and the stormtroopers would be dead before they hit me once. Of course, you must be brandied out of your gorde and wear NO armor.

Wow, one-starred just for asking a question, and with no explanation as to why. Sadly typical for these forums.

More than one person one-starred you too because I five-starred you and it only brought you up to two. /sigh... Children.

Until they revamp ham, using your specials with your rifle equipped will literally kill you no matter species unless you have Doc/Mind buffs or good food/spice down. When I was a noob, oh about the time of game lauch, I used to just run out there and kill stuff too. Now I don't hunt or kill anything without Doc buffs. Now to keep your mind up while wearing composite armoryou will want to basically keep feeding yourself Brandy, when you can pop another go for it. Also, many don't know of this food b/c they still think canape is the best thing since sliced bread, but Ahrisa is the rifleman's best friend. Actually, my entire guild will not even touch Canape anymore b/c they are now Ahrisa junkies. So when you start getting mind costs from those special attacks, pop another Ahrisa or Brandy!

Have +106 rifle speed so I am 100% capping everything, and my mind doesn't budge even in full composite. I have my mind stats maxed and keep 2 brandies in the stomach along with 2 canapes....the canape I use has 33 filling so that I actually can use a 3rd if I needed a boost to regen. The trick is just to keep foods in you and preferably mind buffs. My heavier rifles have huge mind costs because of stocks and scopes for the extra accuracy and dmg, there is no way to effectively use a spray of specials without food/drink/spice buffs and/or entertainer buffs. Run janta/mokk missions for a buff set and you will more than be able to afford your foods that will last you for several more hunting sessions. Rifle is not cheap to use but I have found nothing like it when it comes to the raw power it can produce and nothing like the look on a NS Elder's face as she falls not knowing who hit her

I like the timer on Ahrisa, but the stuff I have seen made is so much lower in strength (at least on the stuff I have seenmade)I still prefer canape. Not to mentin Ahrisa only effects focus so doesn't help the regen if you are taking damage and need the regen. If there is more to Ahrisa than I know, please correct me because another rifleman buddy of mine is preaching it to me saying to only use canape in an emergency. I prefer having only 10 minutes of +677 to focus and willpower X3 than 40 mins of 300 or so focus from Ahrisa. If I get full I can always use the last resort muon and get another 10mins of decent stat buff to close out a problem encounter. Maybe it is my playstyle and I tend to be a bit more reckless than my other rifleman friends

Interesting. I'm 1 box from master rifleman. I'm a MCH trando & I use pets to keep things at bay. I wear chest, leg & helm of composite armour, I only need to take 1 brandy, 1 canape & I only spam specials, never use the normal& the mind never drains so I'm not sure what I'm doing differant then anyone else.

Anyway, cheers.
