Hi all im a smuggler by trade and im not really a huge fan of the typical tk/pistoleer/smuggler type combos. been trying out swordsman but in my head a melee smuggler just doesnt fit the image.

So was thinking about the ranged professions and realised i'd never tried out rifleman. in the past when i've done rifles 4 in marksman its been a a bit of a pain because one shot and the mobs come running and of course the accuracy up close is nasty(as it should be for rifles). So i was wondering what sort of advice would you give to someone to help them level up before they get to that conceal shot stage.

the reason i say conceal shot is,after some reading around here, it seems once you get this its relativly easy to take on mobs then and that then takes you upto the AE type shots which are the riflemans real power.

Where is a good spot to hunt to work on the marksman bits, novice rifleman, and the first box to get conceal shot? what sort of things would you recommend hunting?

if something does charge me down at these lower levels what advice do you offer? and at the higher levels what do you do if something charges you down?

thanks in advance

first off dont bother with rifle unless ur going at LEAST 4004.

leveling is the same as any other profession quenkers on dantooine then huntress hurtons

speed of your weapon is most important try and get a laser rifle that is around 3.0 or better. use speed pups if you have to.

I am currently rifleman 1/1/1/1. BeforeI got conceal shot I used an R3droid tank to attack the quenker, then the other quenker would aggro the droid as well.I would mindshot then headshot2 until they were dead. Then I would summon the droid, repair him (good ol' Arthree) and hit the lair once/peace. Rinse and repeat. Now that I haveconceal shot I get with a big solo group on Dantooine. No buffs just Arisha and Brandy. I still take the quenker missions but they spawnmore quenkers so instead of 6 per lair you are looking at 12-18 quenkers per lair. At range I go prone, take cover, and conceal shot them all dead. Be careful if using the t-21. Sometimes they land a bleed and the whole camp will come a runnin'. Stand/swoop/get the heck outta there unless you buffed and are armored (as a precaution, this can save you time running).

My brother was grinding to novice last night. He is new to the game and the droid thing wasnt working for him. I got buffed and put on my 80% kinetic composite and tanked for him. Id go right up to the lair and draw aggro by mindshoting both quenkers. He would spam headshot from range and we got him levelled to Novicein about 1.5 hours. Only did 8 missions. I got my first countersniper block as well.

I also made myself an set of rifleman clothes to wear instead of armor that gives me +88 cover bonus. Man I am invisible in PVE. Now I just need some skill tapes...

Get a pet/droid tank for the easiest way. Also make sure you group with it for the XP bonus. Use a Laser Rifle until you hit Novice Rifleman. Then use a speed sliced T21.

As for what to hunt. I would suggest anything you can take on comfortably. I've done Torturs on Talus. One trick with them is to lead them as they chase you towards Grufs (sp?) and Kima's in the area. They will start fighting each other so you can use them as a bit of a tank.

Quenkers are popular also on Dantooine. Actually lots of things on Dant are popular. But it's going to depend on if you have armor and buffs.

If something gets close you have a couple options. You can BurstRun to put some distance between you. Other option is to keep trying to hit it, or you could use a PointBlankSingle attack which will improve your to hit some what. You could also use the /Aim command but that will mean your shot takes twice as long to go off. Best bet is not to let them get close. Use a tank to hold them at distance.

Just alittle encouragement here. I know there's guys out there who quit short of getting master rifleman. I almost quit trying to get master myself, but don't believe everything you read here. Master is worth the grind and you will probably never want to drop it. Good luck and have fun!
