Thread: What's a good way to use Advanced Starle in PVP?

I know it delays the target from doing anything... but it's lasts for such a short time... before i even get my next shot off it's gone... anyone got a good way to use this in PVP?
It cancels their next attack for 5 secs.
consider that closely ^_-
Delay them from attacking except if you hit them with another attack. If you hit with for example head hit it will break the delay. But if you hit with another startle shot or with disarming shot you do damage and target still can't attack back...
There are lot of good uses for this attack (and especially when combined with disarming shot)

Does startleshot stop you from using knockdown recovery? That'd be nice if it could.
Yes it does.
Startleshot is probably our best pvp crossover skill (meaning it works well with other weapons and mixes well with other specials). There are many ways to use it to get the advantage in a 1v1 fight. It will give you 5 seconds to do anything you want in combat without retaliation.
If you are a bh, you can hit a startleshot and then dueling stances to start a fight to deal dmg and increase your defense all before your opponent can attack. Follow up with a knockdown and then another startle and then a dmg shot and you now have 4 shots plus an increase in defense all before your opponent can attack you. I like to use this combo to set up a snipershot. Go prone on the knockdown and warm up snipershot while they are on the ground.
You can always use the startleshot disarmingshot combo so an opponent cannot shoot back, but this combo takes a lot of action with a rifle and does little dmg to the opponent and a miss will mess things up for you. I use this when I run way low on action, but I switch to pistol and wait 4 seconds between each shot. Your action will go up slowly while your opponent cannot attack you, but they will be able to heal and will have full action bar to use on you when you stop.
Use startleshot before any warmup shot or special. If you need to aim to hit your target harder shoot a startleshot before aiming. If you want to use a firearm strike to knock the opponent down, hit them with a startleshot first.
There are more ways to use this shot than explained here, but I don't want to give away all the good stuff. Lets just say that if you have a friend that is a Master Rifleman there are all kinds of fun things you can do to piss off a single opponent
.
Before you say this is game breaking let me say that I have seen some great ways to getout ofthe startle disarmingshot loop and have come up with one or 2 of my own. It is fun to fight someone who uses these tactics on me and then turn the tide with one move and give him a taste of his own medicine. It is always best to know how to counter good tactics, and there is no excuse not to know how to counter your own tactics.

but how does hitting with another startle work? Does your second startle stick if hte first is still active?

Unfortunately nothing seems to stop force healing except for a lack of force. Jedi can use heal when startled, disarmed, knocked down, and while attacking. It does not seem to be on the same timer as normal attacks so they can heal right after they throw a saber at you.
Advanced startle can prolong the jedi battle and keep you alive, but it also does not allow the jedi to use up their forcebar so it is almost counterproductive. For more info on fighting Jedi I would suggest the BH forums though.

How can you get out of startle shot/disarming shot other than make some miss or not be able to fire? I have not been the receiving end of this tactic so I don't know lol. Have been thinking of it but I can't come up with any methods which would work other than getting damaged by someone else (creature or player). If you have any good methods please send me a PM (not on flurry so will not be used against you lol and I will keep it a secret anyway).

The only thing that stops force healing is when they swim.
I wonder how hard it would be to actually ambush a jedi crossing a river and root it there for the tripple incap. A knockdown off the bike into the water followed by a root? This would probably take some crazy planning and a lot of luck, but would be fun to do to a knight.
