My main has been a 2h Swordsman forever. I dabbled in master rifle, but just for the hologrind... It seemed okay, but I stuck with swords.

Now, with my alt, I have a real itching to go with Rifles in a bad way. Can someone tell me what advantage Rifleman has over Swordsman?

64m range, more damage types, heavy armorpiercing, relatively easy to speedcap

tbh there isnt a real advantage, but Swordies and rifles work well together.

Group with a speed capped master rifleman for a buff cycle and head for Lok. Don't go tangle with the Kimos straight away. Instead go looking for trouble with Nyms Elite, the Mercenary Elite & the Corsair Elite. These guys are all worth 4.5k+xp a pop, are good for around 1000cr when looted, and are great for dropping crystals, Nym VK motors, & some other good loot; so it won't be a waste of your time. I cap rifle xp and still have time left to head to the village in one buff cycle.

1st, try to out kill the Rifleman. If he has a quality crafted gun, and his attacks down pat, you'll end updoing little more thanfetching the loot from his kills. He will kill everything before you can touch it. Then have him sit back, and see how you fare alone.

2nd, watch how he takes damage from massed ranged fire vs the way you do. With all our ranged defence, blockand ranged mitigation 3, we ignore blaster fire that'd have you running for cover. (Think of the post curb game, and where you want to be).

Rifleman are the single greatest source of damage in the game, able to deal huge amounts of damage over a large area, from a position of relative safety. We are better protected from ranged fire than any other class in the game. We have 3 very effective damage types at our disposal (Energy, Acid & Stun) and 2 others (Heat & Cold).A pure riflemanmay befragile in melee, but adding in defence trees from pistols, fencer or pikes will make a rifleman one tough nut to crack.

If your just interested in a pure offence template, try Rifles/Swords. Not much will be able to stand before that for long, but you can't take much either.

for pvp swords over rifles, with a psg on there is no weapon a rifleman can hit me for to out damage my 380-1100 powerhammer

for most pve swords over rifles, unless you are a kill stealer, then rifles all the way

Thanks for the info... I am continuing towards master hoping it suits my needs better than swords, but after reading this, it seems it wouldn't hurt to do swords as well.

I did go out to lok and fought canyon corsairs and I was getting sweet xp, loot, and creds... nice tip! Better than quenkers.

If any else happens to read this post I have one more question.

I have never been much of a templater. I just had sword would travel, and it worked well. I had always thought that taking up something like pike or tkm would bolster my defenses *WHILE* holding a rifle, ie; Rifle + TKM = Rifleman with TKM defenses, but lately I hear that this is not true and to get the TKM defenses you have to be in "TKM Mode" - unarmed.

This can't be right, can it?

Swordsman have an advantage in dungeons though, can use area attack without aggroing the whole dungeon.

If you dabble in melee, or any other combat profession for that matter, you will get all the defence mods as granted by the class skill boxes (given the Devs didn't ninja nerf this during the past month) ie. melee, stun etc. defences and melee mitigation. However you will not benefit from any melee profession toughness (Unarmed toughness etc.) as they require you to actually hold the weapon.

Hope this makes sense
