Thread: Simple post-upgrade questions for the new guys.
1. The role toggle on your status window. Is that informational, or does that actually do something, as far as combat calcualtions go? For instance, is there a difference when I fight with advanced ranged, ranged, or melee selected?
2. Do the old distance accuracy mod, previously seen over the mobs head, affect accuracy, and hense damage calculations via target acc > def?
3. Are all specials supposed to break cover, except where otherwise noted (ie conceal shot)?
4. If there is no auto-attack, and I'm not supposed to "spam" specials, how exactly doesn't one kill something before it finds you and tears you to shreds (ie most animals).
5. Does cover provide ranged defense like it used to? If so, is it working, and will my old cover mod tape +1 help?
6. How do you grind other skills, like brawler, if the noob rats only give 1xp?
7. My faction pets are only meleeing now, can I get them to do otherwise?
8 My droid is getting one hit pasted, is he broken?

Informational only afaik

Yes ^_^ Great accuracy vs target defense = more hits and more damage

Yes

Spam specials _ but not the same special over and over - watch the timers - some attacks will be ready before other attacks - select the ready attack and then select the next ready one- your ROF will go up considerably. This is an equivalent to the auto attack
press ctrl+ click on the attack you want to loop - this will put a check mark in the box and each time it is ready it will fire (this is slower then selecting attacks that are ready)
5. Does cover provide ranged defense like it used to? If so, is it working, and will my old cover mod tape +1 help?
Well yes and no - cover makes you invisible now so they don't return fire until cover breaks - so infinite defense
Tapes - I have no idea about so hopefully it still helps (but all tapes did not get converted so Oo)
6. How do you grind other skills, like brawler, if the noob rats only give 1xp?
Equip the highest rated brawler weapon you can get and go after mobs the same level as you - in this case I would suggest you group(as you will kill faster)and get some damage in on any target of your level - you will get xp appropriate to your total character level (if you are level 54 group with level 80s and hit something with your knuckler/sword/axe/polearm (that is level 40-54 certed) you will get level 54 experience and the level 80's will kill the target - you should finish brawler in under an hour)
7. My faction pets are only meleeing now, can I get them to do otherwise?
Broken ai - they will fix this soon - please bug in game
8 My droid is getting one hit pasted, is he broken?
Unforunately no - what is the cl of your droid (less then 10 I would assume) this means anything cl20 or greater will 1 shot incap it (even cl15 has a chance of doing that)

Hidden modifier - your damage should drop if they get close but I have not noticed any real effect other then you will definitely miss more often in close range than at long range

First, thank you so much for this info, I was wondering the same things last night, I figured out a few of them, but not all.
One more question about the above answer: If the distance accuracy mod is still in effect, how do we find this information now?
This far, testing against a stationary object (liar), I've been unable to find a distance accuracy bonus. Granted, my current weapon does not allow me to get further away from the target than 45m. Tonight, I'll be checking my lair observations against mobile targets and noting any discrepencies.
It could be possible that the accuracy damage bonus is capped. However, Aim seems to improve this cap if this is so. If it isn't capped or tape mods add a bonus to this cap as well, then accuracy skill tapes would probably be the single most valuable addition to your high end rifleman to persue.

Just to be clear. I know that more accuracy means more damage in that you hit more, and there is an increase in damage for accuracy over a targets defense. So distance affects damage per hit, I haven't noticed this happening. Vs the same opponents in both long and short range. I'm still hitting the same ammount of damage per hit according to the special I used.
BTW, I'm working on an index value for our specials in comparissions to the ranged shat special. This will help us quantify the damage ability of different specials, as well as upgrades to specials such as the "improved" and "advanced" lines. This will only work very easily if the calculations are linear as I'm not math wiz.
1. This could because the taregted mods only affect to-hit. Not included in the damage calculations for accuracy > defense.
2. It is supposed to effect accuracy damage and this is a bug.
3. Targeted mods are not included over some unknown accuracy damage cap already reached on the targets I've faced.
As always, more testing needs to be done, I'll see what I can dig up.
Note: The accuracy damage cap is just speculation. I expect there SHOULD be one, that however, doesn't mean the IS one. Otherwise, rifleman could gain some serious damage improvments from skill tapes, buffs, specials, and targeted accuracy.

Did you notice you can stay prone now and continue to fire even if the mob is standing over you? does this affect your resists?
Stay prone and spam specials, you'll fair better unless you know you can get out of melee range, and stay there without having to continue moving.
Resists are armor, and have nothing to do with posture.
(As always, I expect to be corrected if I'm wrong and someone has observed contradicting behavior.)
