Thread: Wannabe Rifleman needs help!!
I'm currently working on getting the rifle xp together for novice rifleman but it is taking forever and a day. What i want to know is what sort of mobs should I be hunting? and if possible a general spawn location would be nice?
I currently use a Laser Rifle dmg 30-360, spd 4.9 .......... which is nice but since reading these forums I have dreams about a T21. I don't wear armour or use a pet. I took novice medic to help heal myself but turns out the only I need a heal for is Mind and that doesn't exist ![]()
My trigger finger itches for your target suggestions.

People ask questions they think are simple, but which in realityhave no simple answers.
-- Do you have medic skills?
-- Are you a Marksman, or just a rifleman?
-- If not a marksman, do you have good pistol or melee skills?
-- Do you have a pet or probot?
The answer to your question depends upon a lot of other things about your character. The answers to the above questions each hide clues to how you should level up in rifle.
I have first aid 1(and a backpack full of stimpaks), I have rifle 4 and ranged support 3, no pistol and no melee
Sorry for the incomplete info but have only been playing for 3 days. In future I will endeavour to be more forthcoming with the relevent information.

Vortan... thanks for the extra info.
These comments are obviously my opinion. Just so you'll know the background of these opinions, I am working my way up Rifleman as Master Marksman, Master Medic, some scout, some Artisan.
Based on my experience, and on what you told me, here are SOME suggestions:
Things that are aMUST:
-- Getsome pistol or melee skills (my choice is pistol). You do NOT want to be fighting with your rifle when the MOB you are attacking closes with you. I'd work up to Scout Blaster certification at least and get one. There is a 2.5x melee penalty when face-to-face with a mob and you are simply holding any rifle. This means that damage is almost THREE TIMES as high with each hit they lay on you! Put a pistol in your hot-key bars and switch to it when they get to you.
-- I'm not sure where you get them (whichbranch of Marksman)but you will need MINDSHOT1 and WARNING SHOT one from the Marksman tree to survive.
-- Get and Use more than one rifle. A big slow fast rifle is BAD in some situations. A weak but fast rifle is very useful in some situations. A skilled rifleman probably uses at least 2-3 rifles in any one confrontation. Keep them available in your hotkeys at top.
Almost ALL riflemen attack this way: prone at 55-60m... Mindshot1... Headshot... Warningshot... etc.
If you are not familiar with the hows and whys of this attack, read some more of the forums. THere are derivations also... Takecover, maskscent, suppression fire, etc...
Things that are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED:
-- Create a 'Heal' macro that does the following: '/clear;/healdamage self' and put it in your hot-key icons at the top of your screen. The commands may not be right (may be /tenddamage or something like that ... I'm at work and dont remember them exactly). Basically, with ONE CLICK, this clears the combat queue and heals you from one of the Stimpacks in your inventory. Has saved my life LOTS and LOTS of times.
-- Make sure you have TWO ROWS of hot-key icons at the top of your screen and USE them. Normally you see just one row of 12 buttons, but this can be expanded ('dragged with mouse') to TWO rows per set.
Optional Things that Help:
--Dont know how much $$ you got, but get a cheap probot (minecost 12K)group with it, butleave it behind in town when you go out hunting. This gives you a little extra XP because you're grouped. Sony likes that.
-- You will usually get better XP soloing (or grouped with your bot) unless your group is a perfect combination of skills and works very well together.
I wanted to post more, but I have to go.... sorry... work calls...
