Thread: When did you guys first noticed warping?
The patch note says:
Pathfinding bug fixes and improvements, especially in interiors.
Stuck AI's will warp past the thing they are stuck on to get to a target
it's at this URL: http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/recent_updates.jsp?o=58032
Perhaps i'm delusional but i could've swore a month ago there was more detail than what you see on that page. I'm pretty sure it also used to mention Kimogilas on Lok getting stuck by the walls as people lured them to the city and shot them to death from a safe distance. This patch was supposed to prevent the exploit. They also said it would improve pet AI, stuck pets are supposed to warp to you (which happened a couple of times with my vesp, it also warped towards creatures i ordered it to attack. Though it doesn't seem to warp as much as regular creatures and NPCs do).
Does anyone else remember reading this in the update log?
Does anyone recall when warping started happening? or was it just always there?
Well if anything, the "fix" should be undone. If they're concerned about high lv creatures getting stuck by city walls and being slaughtered they should make them spawn farther away from cities. A fix to an exploit by a small number of people should not ruin the fun for everyone else, nor should the fix itself be a "bug".
Yep they really do need to fix this, it's an awful bug for riflemen.
Maybe it should be posted as an "exploit" on the main page, it might get fixed faster that way. ![]()
I don't remember the first time, but it seems to be happening more regularly now than i have ever noticed before. Mybe I am just unlucky I don't know. Last night for example I was shooting some critters when first a baby warped under me, so had to stand up club it to death. Then I watch Mummy critter, which was swimming at the time warp twice. Both times further away from me, out to 64m before a final warp, you guessed it, right ontop of my head! It really is most irritating.![]()

In my experience, warping only happens in the mob is levitating over the ground.
Like the camp appears on a hillside but it doesn't flatten the area, or doesn't flatten enough of it. The mobs related to the camp spawn either at the altitude of the camp or at the altitude of the ground, whichever is HIGHER. So if they spawn at a spot would should put them downhill, it will just have them at the level of the camp, 20 feet in the air.
If you shoot him and he's a melee mob, he will warp to you.
I noticed the player warping bug on day 6 I believe. It was the second day I was playing the game anyway and I got it shotrtly after launch as I am in the UK. I never saw MOBs warp before the patch however so MOB warping was probably introduced in the first big patch.
It makes sense as it's fairly easy to trap a MOB when fighting so they probably just made them warp to get around the problem/exploit. And probably they warp directly to the player's location because the developersalready know there cannot be an object at that position so it means they do not have to search for a suitable location to warp to which would causea server side performance hit.
In my opinion it's a poor way to fix the problem but if you know how it works it's fairly easy to play in such a way that it doesn't happen.
Incidentally, I was warped on by a Krayt Dragon last night.

The warping issue was part of the first "big" update. It was created so you couldn't get MOB's stuck on the scenery as was happening. However their "fix" created the present bug. If any MOB is trying to trace a path to you (usually a melee MOB's but also ranged MOB's that are chasing) and the AI detects ANY obstruction along the path. The creature warps to on top of you.
This is most common for the melee MOB's since they are coming towards you. But I also had it happen with a ranged MOB that I was running from using player buildings as a screen so I wouldn't get shot. It warped past a couple player houses and a factory to right behind me where it incapped and DB'd me.
Also the reverse happens. If a creature is running from you and it detects an obstruction in it's path it will also warp away. This happens to melee players more so than us ranged ones. Same bug but in reverse.
There is already a four page discussion about this where you can add to it. Here is the link. Also links to this were given to each combat class.
