Nope, I don't wear any armour and I typically head out unbuffed. Don't really have to as I try to tactically never put myself into a position of vulnerability (ie. let them come to me, force them down at 60m, move out of their range)
Standard routine for yellow to red cons during PVE, engage at 60m, get bleed in, headshot till agro, once target moves (depending upon target speed) either run or ride away on vehicle till target disengages. Once target disengages, move back in fast while bleed is still active and hopefully get another headshot till bleed causes new agro... repeat. I can come out of a fight against 3-4 humanoidreds with very little used on my mind bar (due to recharge rates), may take a bit longer but I know I'm pretty safe.
In Dantooine which is ripe with little pools of water everywhere, a great tactic is to engage and agro a target, get that target into the water, get on to the opposite shore line, headshot, headshot, as they get closer to shore I run along the shoreline and get to a position on the opposite bank... result: you keep the target doing laps and they cannot engage in combat activities.
Armour is not required for any of the above activities as my tactic is to avoid a firefight. I'm always engaging at 60m, and I'm always the only one who's getting any shots off (conceal, engage, disengage, engage, disengage). I play rifleman as a sniper character, not as a heavy machine gunner. The challenge of engaging something without any armour or buffs makes the experience a little more interesting. Sure, it may not be the powergamers way to make it to master but "playing with your target" is entertaining.
