I started this profession before the CU, got about half way, then the upgrade hit. Fine fine, whatever. Continue to grind.
I have finally reached the master level and realied I hated it. I mean, whats the fun? Our attacks take forever, they are really boring, and it doesnt even feel like fun combat, it feels like slowly chiseling away rock with a toothpick until it breaks. I am sure it would be very difficult for me to adgust to carbineer or pistoleer range, but what reason is there to stay now? My main profession is ranger, rifleman has always been just the means by which I could be a ranger, and Inever really cared for it. Lets take a look at our specials....
Headshot- Boring.
Snipershot- Great damage, but Boring.
Startle Shot- I dont even know what this is supposed to do, but is sure is Broing.
kneecap Shot- Would be great if it worked, but I am fine with PDart to stop critters, so it's Boring.
I just think that the whole of slow firing, long range and boring specials contributes to this lack of excitement in combat. Wish I would have realized this with my last respec, but I guess grinding up pistoleer or carbineer will do me good to get to know the profession.

I don't agree with you that some attacks are boring (watching blaster bolts fly across the screen just isn't your thing, I guess) but I have noticed that kneecap shot seems to do absolutely nothing.

Well compare our combat to a pistoleers or carbineerrs- they get awesome attacks that cause bleeds, apply states, all sorts of stuff. They attack fast, and thye are usually up close an dpersonal with the enemy. Then there is us, just sitting around chisseling away with a rifle, nothing but damage. Boring, IMO.

Then don't be one. If you don't like doing near 2K damage with sniper shot then I guess winning is...well...boring.
Don't slam a profession just because you don't like it, just move on to the next one.

Rifleman are defined in the CU as long ranged damage dealers. I don't think the profession is for you if you prefer to be up close and personal and deliver tons of particle effects on your enemies. One of my alt's is a Master Smuggler, Master Pistoleer with 0440 Carbineer. If you like the up close craziness, you might want to give that a try

First off, if you notice that rifles is REALLY slow, which I agree it is, then there'sa few things you can do. Get an adrenaline boost, rifle speed SEAs, or speed powerups. A combination of these might even be better. With kneecap shot...it DOES work. The thing is, if you do knee cap on something, it will still be able to catch you, just not as quickly. If you really want to see it work...I getting another snare attack. I don't know if it stacks with other snares like crippling attack from Fencer, and I don't think it stacks with another knee-cap from another rifleman. However, the CM electrolyte drain DOES stack with knee-cap, rendering your opponent moving as fast as and old granny. At that point, you can effectively kite the enemy even with ranged weapon movement hindrance. In addition, you mostlikely will still have the agro, so everyone can pound it and no one takes damage. As for being boring...I think being the main damage dealer in a group is exciting. Doing a combo of head shot, ranged shot, head shot (or sniper shot, head shot, ranged shot, head shot if you are prone) while adding in a knee cap, firearm strike, or startle shot when necessary keeps you on your toes keeps everything exciting. Having another prof to complement rifleman such as CM, BH, pistols, ordoctor. I hope I changed your mind about rifles

let's see..you're obviously not a mbh as well
With mbh, our speed is really nice, critical and headshots alternate for the most damage for the nowarmup attacks, knockdown+startle really frustrates enemies, sniper shots to just pwn pve (specially in those kash quests), and massive damage.
I guess you think it's boring, but some prefer winning
And I'm actually not one of those people who prefer winning. I think that rman/bh/pistols 0004 is the best template and most fun out of those I've tried during the respec.

Know what you attack before you attack it.
What do you consider "fun"? A carbineer full auto area? Because it has a pretty wave effect that goes out from your feet when you fire?
I have always though Rifleman to be the most complex ranged profession out of the three. While it boasts its nuking attacks, it also has one of the craziest PvP moves in the game: Cover.
Cover used to be pretty sweet in the old system, didn't really need it all the time because the old conceal shot could just be spammed over and over again.
Now, however, cover's purpose is completely different and amazing. You can cover up outside of someones range (be safe and cover at 60m or so) and then just spam attacks out your ass at the enemy group. With the cover in place, they cannot see you at all, much less target you. And if Jedi or other Spec Forces are in front of you bearing the brunt of the attack, the enemies won't be able to get up to you to break the cover. You are just an endless supply of damage for your side.
Headshot: Quick, high damage output.
Snipershot: Highest damage output attack in the game. Pretty cool if you ask me.
Startleshot: Delays opponent from making any attacks or moves for 5 seconds, and decent damage (check the startleshot thread)
Kneecap Shot: Slows opponents movement significantly, allowing you to gain your superb rifleman range on them.
Things you forgot:
Conceal Shot: Great PvE shot, allows you to snap off 3-4 conceals at good damage output before creatures find you. Snap off one final sniper at the end and you can almost bring them down.
Advanced Aim: Way to counter someone with incredible ranged defense. Raises your accuracy by 200 points, which added to your base accuracy (mine is 160) is usually enough to get around almost all defenses and get your shots through.
I urge you to reconsider rifleman, and experiment more. Rifleman is a great profession in my opinion, a profession for a more, civilized age.

Riflemen are a long ranged damage class.
Sniper Shot, Cover, and Conceal Shots see to that.
You want ALOT of hurt? Have a group of Riflemen go prone and fire Sniper Shot at a single target.
THAT is pain. That's frontloaded pain that not many can recover from as an initial onslaught.

What's so great about rifleman? DAMAGE
Its great for those pesky NPC rebels that keep attacking me onsite. Two shots and their toast. I can see Master Rifleman getting boring for some if you don't add another combat profession for extra specials. I'm Master RM/BH with some pistoleer. Due to my spuratic play I'm usually playing alone so the damage I'm able to do with rifleman is great, sofar I have been able to solo all the quests I've gone on. I also live outside Mos Eisley so it's always amusing using AoE on the mobs on my way home, One shot and the whole mob is dead.

Rifleman is great...you are the damage dealer, the specials may not have the fancy animations but who cares. Its fun to watch everyone else smacking or shooting at a target and watching its HAM move down slowly then you do a Advance/Improved Head shot and watch it go down a couple notches. Rifleman is great in PVP as well, you get certed for one of the most powerful weapons in the Game, The T21 and you can hit people for obscene amounts of damage from 65 (70 if you have ROTW and got the cyber armor from the guy in Bestine) m out. Rifleman is also the only profession in the game that I have found to be able to solo the high end content. I can solo level 80 mobs and not breaka sweat. So you may not like rifleman and you may find it boring but take this coming from a Commando Rifleman, its nice to have a profession that actually works

Im a M-Marksman M-Rifleman M-Bounty Hunter w/ Combat Med 4000 and loving it.
No profession is perfect but Rifleman will be better when they get the rest of the bugs out of it, In the mean time were the number 1 damage dealers and if you get in a group with 2-3 other M-Rifleman and a good healer you can pretty much take out just about any npc. A real nice tactict to use if you have multiple rifleman and plenty of room is to have all the rifleman keep about 50 meters away from the target in different directions and keep rotating there specials so the target's "borked" hate system will keep having it going after 1 rifleman untill one the others hit it harder. Me and 2 other rifleman tried this on an 82 rancor and it worked great. We used the same shots in the same order and just offset by 1 Knockdown, Sniper, Bodyshot, Startle. but im sure any combo will work as long as each of you use a few high damage shots to draw the agro away from the current bunching bag.
Also has anyone else tried using a nice laser rifle with some of the pistoleer shots? They work quite nice.
