I'm working rifleman up and almost novice swordsman but not sure if it is worth the trouble ... Its nice that they both do mind damage but it is really rough ... my other toon (pistoleer/CH) has it much easier. Thoughts anyone?

Ugh, that's a tough decision.

I'd just go with what you feel must comfortable with, and what you find the most enjoyable, because either way you go, there will be sometimes when you say, "Sweet! I sure am glad I decided to bea rifleman/(insert profession here)" and there will be a nearly equivalent amount of times when you'll say, "Dangit! I wish I would have been a rifleman/(insert profession here)!."

Wow, I just mastered another profession. Master rifle/master sword/master run-on sentence creator.

Well.. for awhile i was master Rifleman, Master marksman, and 1 block from Master CH. After awhile i got bored and sacrificed marksman for ranger and will probably start ditching CH. However it was a great combo, and i'd still be that combo had i not become bored running around with my graul mauler and rancors to tank the most hideous of creatures and then destroying them with my devastating damage.
I wouldn't go swordsman, just because you'll probably want to wear armor as a swordsman, and then you'd have to macro armor on and off everytime you switch from ranged mode to melee mode. with CH you're usually pretty free from danger if you play smart, you keep your enemy at a distance. If you want melee, pick up a pistol, at least this way you don't lose the 28 skill pts for going up one sword and getting brawler. You just lose 14 for the pistol tree.

Actually, I like Heavy Sword, it's got at least one melee AoE and you can hit mind. After those2 bleeds and a head shot you can clean up pretty fast. If you have assistive the AoE range followed by the AoE melee is nice to have as well. My plan now is to finish up and teach my 2 Wrix guard and drop CH, get the speed and accuracy trees for rifleman and keep Heavy Sword and Master Ranger. It's been working for me so far... as long as I don't miss. The pet helps with melee too if it comes to that. Eventually I may try for Master Rifleman but it will be REALLY hard to let go of that sword with the X2.5 melee. I don't think I will do that (Master Rifle/ Master Ranger)until they give us a melee move with the rifle.

Ranger is not a profession. It's a lifestyle.
