Thread: 2 Handed Sword/Swordsman
Has anyone tried becoming a swordsman to compliment thier rifleman skills? Melee mind damage on top of thier ranged mind damage? in theory it should work well...
I've only got up to 2 handed swords 3 but so far it seems work ok... seems to work well in PVE maybe at higher swordsman lvls you can stack rifle mind bleeds with melee mind bleeds and it can could be veryeffective in PVP.
So far I've had decent results in PVE
If any of you have tried this lemme know how it works out....
I'm working on my 2 handed swords as well as my rifle skills. They seem to compliment eachother very well. It's nice to be able to kill my prey with one shot at +60 m but if I do miss and they charge, anything under 20m is done away with by my sword/clever/powerhammer depending on the hit points.
For example, right now I'm grinding out xp on Tatooine by killing bantha. Most of the time I can kill them with my laser rifle with one or two mind shots at +60m. If they charge (or if I get bored) I hit them with my powerhamer and finish them off with a head hit. I'm climbing up the ladder pretty fast since they're worth 1k xp each. I save the hide and meat and sell them at the bizzar for 4-5 creds/unit. With the mind cost being so high, when I find my mind pool drained to about 40% I break out with the powerhammer and use normal attacks to give my mind a break. I
Yes it gets very ugly if I miss with my power hammer but that only happens on rare occasions. The rest of the time I can kill them with one to two hits. Missing every now and again keeps me interested or else it would just get too boring.
When I'm on my way to do a mission, I run with my clever/sword. I usually kill whatever aggros on me before I even notice them. So I'm worry free for those long treks 8-)
In PvP... to quote a previous post, "If your not a master swords or a master rifleman, you have no business doing PvP." Run away if you find yourself in PvP.
In my opinion 2h swords and rifleman compliment eachother very well. Keep the faith!
Worked wonders for me. Melee is the #1 liability of rifleman, and drawing a sword turns that around.
I have found my sword skills a huge advantage in close quarters pvp and I am only close to master swordsman, this is especially true against commandos and creature handlers, both of which are swarming all servers.
Basicly if you have High level sword skills you will eventually get to the point where enemy PCs who cant match you in meleewill keep thier distance from you because they have better odds against your rifle ![]()
Thanks for the great tips
I'm almost swordsman now thanks some power leveling I've been mind shooting then "peace" the creatures then wait for them to take damage from the bleed and attack me then I just use the mind hit to finnish them...
works well for me...better than going through two-handed sword alone..
This is what I'm doing. In fact, considering the dumb-dumb pathing problems it is what I HAVE to do. I wish to keep Master Ranger so the Skill points only allow me Heavy Swordsman and 2 full rifle trees (I choose the speed and accuracy trees, dispite the fact that they say Flushing Shot 2 is better then Flurry Shot 2). Before I can become a Master Rifleman several changes have to come:
- x2.5 damage (at least while standing) has to go
- There has to be a way to attack in some way at melee range. Even burst run and petswill not get you away in all cases.
Barring those changes I will be stopping at Rifle 4/0/0/4, Brawler 0/0/4/0, and Master Ranger. I make my "living wages" by explore missions that I solo on until a group is available to hunt with.
I'm a master rifleman/master swordsman. Its good stuff. On huge creatures I can put 4 different mind bleeds on them, and I never have to worry about the 2.5x damage from melee.
A tip on that mind bleed trick, Ragnoroah. You don't have to worry about hitting the "peace" button after your mind bleeds. The XP transfer works the same way even if you stay engaged with the target. The target (NPC or creature) doesn't turn its attention to you until after the first drain from the bleed. The server doesn't start assigning potential XP points until after the first "real" damage is delivered. So fire off your bleeds, switch to your sword, wait for the target, and you'll still get 100% sword XP when you're done with it.
Oh, and another tip is to start macroing your weapon switches. Ex: All of my rifle techniques are on one action toolbar, all of my sword techniques are on another. I hit one key and the macro switches my weapon and the toolbar at the same time, making me ready to use the other weapon. Both action toolbars are completely full, and I don't know how I'd survive having them both on the same one. If you need help making a macro for it, send me a message over the forum. ![]()
