Thread: Technical Rifleman Questions (from a new Novice)

I just got Novice Rifleman after many long hours of grinding! Woot! Okay, only 5 million more exp to go *blanches*. Anyway, I have a few questions on [i]cover, concealment, mask scent, exping, etc[/i].


1. What does the /takecover skill do? What modifier affects it, and how?

2. Do you have to have /takecover up to use a concealed shot?

3. If still unanswered, what do Rifle Concealment Chance and Cover mean? How do they stack with Mask Scent?

4. Where the hell can I get a decent, consistent place to group? No one ever has the LFG tag up...

5. On that note, where is a good place for me to EXP? Considering that I'm pretty much a newb to SWG (I played lastonly a week afterrelease,just came back now..).. So I can't handle too much. Yep, that's NO armor, buffs, insane weapons, and such.

6. I have some crappy DLT20a. What should I purchase next, and what are the stats it should have? How much would this roughly cost? (I only have 30k) Lowca, for the records. (if you couldn't read my sig )


Right now, the road to getting only a single rifleman box looks hopeless. I can take down yellows usually by myself, but reds are certainly hopeless. Mind Shot is absolutely USELESS now, so I am stuck with spamming HS2. Are there any other rudimentary tactics that would improve my experience gain and survival ratio?

1) Take cover supposedly increases defenses, but it also forces you to go prone, which is usually a bad idea. It's never used in PVP, you can't shoot things meleeing you while prone, and PVE generally includes at least one enemy per group that will run up and try to melee you. It also uses a lot of HAM and fails a lot.


2) conceal shot can be used at any time, but you get best results from prone at long range. surprise shot's description says it must be used from cover, but it can be used at any time. however, it has no status effect, is random pool, and the delay/damage multipliers suck so it's useless.


3) concealment chance is the ability to single-pull from a group of social mobs. you're standing around a bolle bol lair, you shoot one (with any non-area attack from any range), and only that one attacks you because of concealment chance. anyone else would have the whole group aggro on them. cover affects the take cover skill.


4) stand around in one of the outposts on a hunting planet and ask if you can join the groups that pass through. Most people probably don't know how to enable LFG tag.


5) solo savage quenkers on Dantooine. if you can't handle quenkers, feral banthas on Tat are like 1k exp each and are very easy to kill. group hunting sucks at low levels because everyone else is doing more damage so you get crap exp.


6) Laser (withspeed slice or powerups)or E11is best at low levels. I have both on my vendor and I recognize your name from my friends list so you have dozens of emails with my waypoint.

doesnt seem to do jack. I heard that if effects ranged defence

no. you can conceal shoot fromstanding

Some people say the advanced planets etc. I would try up by the krayt graveyard on tatooine. some servers have a city up there with cloning centre, shuttle port etc.

The best rifle you can get is the T21. If you cant afford it a laser rifle is good too. For close range the spray stick can be helpful. Sg82 & Jawa ion have their uses as well in PvE. PvP is Jawa and T21. I wouldnt bother with the dx rifle. The price is so ridiculuss at the mo its not worth teh effort. for the same price you can get 10-20 T21's.



Also. Dont get damage powerups, get speed.

Ah yes heh.. Jennai, I meant to call you up some time. I bought a few weapons from you in the first week, if I recall correctly



Thanks for the info guys, it helped a lot.


However, more questions


1. What determines how many "free shots" you get at a mob before it attacks you? When I go prone and use Head Shot 2, I can shoot a mob anywhere between 3-6 times before it aggroes. Mind Shot makes the monster come right at me though, along with the entire lair..

It seems to be posture+range+random factor. Prone at 64m you can usually kill quenkers with HS2 before they aggro, standing or at closer range it won't work as well. Mind shot shouldn't be causing immediategroup aggro if you're prone at long range, but they'll all attack when the bleed pulses unless you back off to 80+m, in which case only the bleeding one will aggro you.
