Thread: How is Master Rifleman for a crystal hunter template?

I know its a bit early to think this way, but I hope to eventually be jedi and I will need a means to get crystals. I have been melee so long that I thought I would make my alt a rifleman. Do riflemen do well in the crystal hunting department? If so what would be a good skill to go with them...i would hunt jantas, mokks, nightsisters, and krayts and whatever else I can find that drops crystals. Thanks guys

I'm working on the same task as you. In my opinion, I wouldn't recommend soloing the higher end mobs for crystals because you will most likely be outdamaged for corpse rights. Since we're on the same server, I've had some experience running across other player teams after the same loot mobs. Krayt spawn locations are camped and the area around the NS Stronghold is always busy.

My suggestions:

1. Don't bother with janta/mokk or jinda/korga for crystals, the low quality isn't worth it.

2. Don't solo the elders/krayts although its possible as a RM.

I hunt with a fellow guild member who is a swords/tkm/medic. He tanks while I dish out damage, apply DOTs, intimidate, and heal. I have swordsman as a back up in case the elder kd's my teammate and comes after me. So yes RM is good for crystal hunting, but best done in teams. Keep in mind that most lesser NS (spellweavers and protectors) are resistant to all our dmg types (Singing Mountain Clan are a better alternative for us). Another tip, have your best T21 pup'ed for min/max dmg and have strafeshot2 hotkeyed in case some kill stealers happen to drop by to try and outdamage you.

I would say rifleman is the best for looking for crystals. Rangers and outcasts drop good and quality crystals just like spell weavers and protectors, and master riflemen can mow through a spawn of 5 easily. And then theres elders...

I solo Elders very easily as a Rifleman/CM. I just have to find a hill to run up really fast, lol. (CMs get terrain negotiation.)

  • POOR: Mokk, Janta, Kunga

  • FAIR: Mokk, Janta, Kunga, NS Outcasts, NS Initiates, NS Rangers, NS Stalkers

  • GOOD: NS Spell Weavers, NS Sentinels

  • QUALITY: NS Protectors

  • SELECT: SMC Guardian

  • PREMIUM: NS Elders, DJK, DJM

  • FLAWLESS: NS Elders, DJK, DJM

more likely than not you will get fair crystals from rangers/outcasts. Sometimes you will get poor and sometimes good, very rarely will you get quality in my experience. But then again, you never know what the stats will tune to in the end regardless of this ranking system.

so i would probably be better off in doing swords rather than doctor for my rifleman?

Some problems with that list. As far as I know there are no flawless crystals, only pearls. protectors can drop good, and I very rarely get a fair off a ranger.

Similar to my current template there valden, Master Rifles/Master Swords/Medic 2xxx/tk 4xxx/FS skills.
If I may critique your build a bit:

elders like to stack bleeds, so I like having First Aid to cure them (Medic 2xxx). Also with Stim-b's combined with +25 Injury/Wound treatment BE clothes, I can heal around 500-600 damage sometimes more and sometimes less. Again if you want to solo elders, DrendalKahn's RM/CM build is very effective.

Not sure why you added in Master Brawler, in my experience the benefits don't warrant the skill point cost especially with a ranged/melee hyrbid. And since you have only 3 points left over, it will be the first to sacrifice when you start getting Force Sensitive skills.

My alternative suggestion would be Master Rifles/Master Swords/Medic 2xxx minimum which gives you 46 points left over. What to do with those points? Scout 4xxx would give you better terrain negotiation and burst run efficiency to kite, you could add more medic skills to use higher stimpacks, or you could invest in more defense with TK or fencer. This way, when you start adding in the FS skills you wont be giving up a huge part of your template. I think it all depends on your play style. This hybrid variation seems to work best with what I like to do in the game, although may not be the best for hunting elders and krayts.

Edited: I think I misread your initial post, this is an intended template for your jedi alt? If so, I would do Doc/RM/Novice Brawler. This way your alt can buff you but still be effective in combat, unless you have other non-public sources of buffage. The above still applies if thats not a concern of yours.

If all you want to do is solo Elders, there's no reason to be a Swordsman.

    Rifleman > Swordsman for DPS.

Also, Elders are melee, so kite. It works really well on them. (You need terrain negotation somewhere, though.) I never get above 100 BF going Elder hunting solo -- they're just slow, lol.

But I picked MR/MCM because it rocks in high-end PvE (I like DWB and Vette runs),I can easily solo Elders, and, even though I'm really doubtful on soloing Krayts and things like that, the damage output is insane. All the kill stealers can have fun wasting their armortanking for you, lol. Someone on here said awhile ago, however, that he had a MR/MCM alt for "Krayt killing" purposes -- so maybe some people have some success with it. When I get some new poisons I'll go try and let ya know how it goes, but I'm still very doubtful. I do think that I could kill a DJK or DJM on Dant though, given he was in the right location. They are sooooo rare, and I hate Dant, but I'll give it a try anyway (when class 1 spawns and I can start crafting again, lol.)

But, if you want to kill NS's in general (not just Elders) and, if my instinct is correct, Krayts, you'll either need swordsman or another melee class.

I think that I would have liked RM/CM. Rifles is nasty, CM is nasty and together it must be pure BS. Long ago, my veteran friend was trying to make me do just that, but I was in "hear no evil" mode. At least I got half of it right. *kicks self.

Great input for sure. The main reason I wanted to pick up master brawler was for the intimidate 2 and the knockdown. Also the +5 speed and accuracy I figure would help out alot with the power hammer. Since this will be my second toon if and when I unlock, I don't really have ambitions to go through much of the village all over again lol. I may at some point get FS and go in to do the melee speed quest but... doubt much more heh. So Combat medic works well on nightsisters? hmm... As for the doc issue...I do have several guildies who are doc that could probably buff my jedi, and I have a second account too that I could try to keep active for that purpose.

CM does sound intriguing but I have no ambitions to pvp with this toon.
