Running around dragging a mob behind you like you're flying a kite.

No strings are involved though. Essentially its just moving to stay out of range.

Kiting! The art of staying out of your enemies attack range while you are still within your own attack range. Essentially, you can hit your opponent but he/it cannot hit you.

The max attack range for melee professions is 5 meters (jedi is 32m). You can kite melee professions all day so as long as you have good terrain negotiation. You can only kite a ranged profession like pistoleer if you have a weapon with over 60 range. You cannot kite a rifleman ever.

Honestly though, kiting has become way easier in CU then it was before CU. With advanced stopping shot and all the snares, roots and long ranged KD specials....it's impossible for a melee character to catch you.

One word of caution though, nightsisters sometimes force run to catch you. They don't do it often, but it's very very fast when they do. I've only had 2 do it since CU went live that I noticed (most of the time they were rooted or KD, so hard for me to tell when they use it....LOL)

I've fought a few dark knights and dark masters and they seem no faster than normal players and they definitely don't have good terrain negotiation. I think they should use force run too.

But that's my definition and understanding of kiting.
