Thread: The prodigal son returns...
I'm not complaining about my skills... nearly every single skill point I have has been dedicated to combat.
I'm complaining about people being so sneering to "overpowered pistoleers" when the fact is for the 92 skill points for just Master Pistoleer you get something that really isn't that great.
Think about it, at least Strafe2 in the master box works... both specials for pistoleer don't do squat ![]()

I agree that regular pistoleer isn't that great, although I don't think it's as bad as everyone makes it seem. But my question is how could you fix it without really overpowering the hybrid smuggler/BH/Commando that takes master pistoleer?
I'm sure that's the same thing the Dev's think when they look at pistoleer, they think, hmm, if we fix all of these specials so they are cool and useful, then the Smuggler/pistoleer, or BH/pistoleer, or commando/pistoleer steps into super-uber mode.
So unless they make the pistol mods not stack between professions, my guess is a pistoleer will have to get something to go along with pistoleer to make it more effective. Unless you have another suggestion?
The solution to the "stackability of professions" is like the Holy Grail for SWG. I don't have any easy solutions... and this thread is quickly getting off track ![]()
I'm dilligently reading up on what's changed in the world of rifles. From what I take it, the laser rifle is going to be the only weapon I will really need all the way up to master with maybe a T21 for armor piercing.
Luckily I'm a Master Smuggler with a Master Weaponsmith roommate
I've already got a ridiculous krayt laser sitting at home waiting for the grind. Don't remember the stats exactly offhand but its like 40-697/4.8 with a powerup.

Yep, I used mostly a laser all the way to master, with a few exceptions. If you go out on a group hunt of something with heavy armor I'd use the T-21. But since lasers are so much cheaper than T-21's, and they can do some great damage, I pretty much stuck to that.
I've used the spraystick sparingly, if something gets close you still take the huge damage holding a spraystick, although since we are losing this damage modifier supposedly, maybe the spraystick will get more use from novices. Usually if something ran after me I would run the other way screaming for help like a little girl. My guildmates thought it was funny, but they aren't laughing now when I deathblow someone before they even hit the ground from the incap, mwuhahaha.
I've never used an E11. I've used the jawa some, but I haven't done much PvP, where I hear the jawa truly shines.
Never used a Tusken.
I'd like to get a new DLT20a, but doesn't seem like anyone makes a decent one. Mainly since it has decent damage with much lower HAM costs than a laser.
I've also used the SG82 sparingly, mostly just for fun.
Now, that was no help to you whatsoever. But I had fun writing it
I'm going to try slicing some DLT20a's tonight. It might make spamming Flushing2 more bearable on ye olde blue bar later.
After looking at the E11s I can make on Kettemoor, I'm not impressed. I'll definately get an SG42 and a Jawa for situational attacks.
Remember I come from a Pistoleer background and I had like 7 guns lol.
I'm very up to date with the proposed changes. As of now, there is no plan to institute range mitigation on creatures and NPCs so for grinding, a laser with a huge damage range is no worse after the changes than now.
Or do you mean HAM cost changes?
When I started playing SWG near release, I picked up Marksman and thought "**edit** I want to be a super sniper." So obviously, I worked my way up to Novice Rifleman.
I was having a blast! Man this game has some amazing visuals, sounds, and music. I loved hiding in the amber grass fields south of Coronet and one-shotting unspecting creatures during Sunrise!
Then I hit the fourth rifle box
Wow that was way longer than I expected. It didn't help that I couldn't afford a laser rifle until this time.
Eventually an Expert Bounty Hunter with Pistoleer and Creature Handler (holy overpowered at release batman) with a Gurrek took pity on me and we went to dantooine. I saw him use his incredible pet to tank forever. The **edit** thing literally regened faster than it took damage. I saw the kind of damage he was spitting out and the accuracy at which he was doing it.
Looking back, its obvious to me why he was doing so much better than I was. I was just a marksman who got novice rifleman using a laser rifle versus a bounty hunter at the pistol speed shooting Stopping Shot every second with an extremely overpowered pet.
I talked to other riflemen I saw (and noticed they were all creature handler wookies... don't ask me why... Kettemoor seems to have a gigantic Wookie rifle/ch population). They all had the same gospel advice: "stick through it, you do serious damage at master," "riflemen are awesome with creature handler," "PvP will be your forte when you get master," "you will suck at novice bad, keep your chin up," etc.
Well, I did... to a point. I quickly realized that the only reason I wanted to be a rifleman (to be that sniper guy) was never going to happen. All these guys are saying I will have a humongous grind ahead of me unless I get a pet and once the grind is over I become some sort of Gatling gun on wheels ... not a sniper picking off krayt dragons.
So I surrendered. I discovered pistols, unarmed fighting, and the joy of smuggling. Since then I've gotten in several heated debates here... and if I've offended others, please accept my apologies. I'm very vocal about the imbalance that pistoleers face, both in game mechanics, and through other people. Everybody seems to think pistoleers are so overpowered when in fact they are one of the most ungratifying professions out there unless you are committed to dabbling or extreme skill point investment in smuggling or bounty hunting.
But now, I'm considering going back to rifles... on my other account on Kettemoor. So anyway, expect to hear from me after I get my feet wet again in the rifleman tree. I'm looking forward to actually using conceal shot now that it works.
