Thread: I need some schooling, looking for PvP 101 for rifleman

ok, i read the FAQ and have some insight but my problem is that I'm the worst PvP'r in all the galaxies. (Its my bio too)

So I'm looking for help and advice. I was a fencer back in the fall and was very good at PvP then, but I moved towards PvE with smuggler/heavy sword and a short stint in BH (to 3/4/4/4). So I picked up doctor and now master rifle. (no not a holo grinder, i'm just having fun going through all the combat profs and unfortunately picked rifle while everyone and their brother is doc/rifle)

My problem is that I get killed too quickly. I am either using the wrong specials, wrong weapon or just not good at combat. Or all 3.

So what I'm asking is, what is a good plan of attack in a PvP situation?

I know every situation has its differences and if there was one set way to fight as a rifleman then there would probably be a post with the macro for it. I'm just looking for the basics. Can someone give me a clue as to what attacks I should try andshould I use the disruptor, t-21 or jawa? I know stun damage is usually the best to go for, but is there better than the jawa?

I know all about the ranged concept and sniping seems to be the key to this profession, but I am looking for tips and tricks. I am master rifle, master doc and I spent the leftover pts on the ranged col, carbine1 and pistol 1 (for PvE reasons...). I have no rifle skillCA's or AA's.

I'm not looking to be the best PvP'r with rifle. I'm looking to finally get to kill someone, its been a long time and I don't hide behind my covert status much, i just want to visit the clone throne a little less.

Are you kidding? Every other prof would love to have an AP1 Stun weapon like the jawa. Pistoleers are going crazy for the crappy Geo Blasters and Carbineers are just beggin for a stun weapon period.

Rifleman are not overpowered in PvP, its just that we have a great weapon to get thru composite armor which is what everyone on my server is wearing.

You want some advice for PvPing..... Kite your enemy.

I have no problems with any of the professions. The problem is i'm a pretty kick butt PvE player but when you get me in the arena against another player I feel like I'm getting my ass handed to me in like 2 seconds before I even fired one bullet.

I understand kiting helps a lot with ranged professions and in an ideal world I could lay prone and pick off players from 60meters. But that's highly unlikely.

So i'm just curious, doi arm my jawa gun and just plug head 3 and hope?

Do I arm my krayt disruptor and fire off strafe 2?

Do I used AIM for PvP or was that really just for PvE?

I stored plenty of faction to learn the ropes, I'm just looking for advice on how to best play rifleman. I've grown used to battles with mobs taking several minutes in the PvE world. The problem is that PvP seems to be a 2 second battle that I end up losing every time. My friend tells me i'm just really unlucky and i'm getting attacked by players that have incredible weapons or use some exploit. But I find that hard to believe. I use good armor, 37% stun on parts and have fairly good weapons. I just can't seem to land a shot to save my life and when i do land one, it hits for like 200 damage which is nothing when fighting a fully buffed player.

I don't want this to sound like I'm whining that I can't win, I'm very happy with my PvE abilities in this game and have gone very far in taking out some of the hardest content in the game solo. I'm just trying to learn something new and to do this I have to forget all I know about PvE and learn how to PvP.

If you aren't using brandy or vagnerian canape, just one special will use a lot of your mind. You're a Zabrak I assume, so you have nice willpower but can't get your focus above 500, which will hurt you in PvP. I think an important part of PvP period is to have a lot of mind and high mind secondaries, so you will want to think about some BE brandy and/or canape...canape boosts just your secondaries and for a lot shorter duration than brandy, but it can boost for more than 700 while brandy doesn't typically get above 450. Use both plus that stun helmet and your mind will be very hard to take down. As a doctor you can quite easily heal your other two pools if necessary, too.

In PvP, don't go prone. Ever. Melee professions can hit you from 20m away and will kill you easily if you're prone. Ranged professions will just dizzy you and then if you stand up you will probably flop like a fish. A good bet is to keep moving when shooting, too...it hurts your accuracy but also spoils the enemy's aim.

As for which weapon to use, I recommend the T21, laseror Jawa for regular PvP combat, and a CDEF for sniper shots Remember, sniper shots will use mind, and considering they have a non-damage-related effect, there's no point to using a high-HAM weapon to fire them. Spraysticks aren't good for PvP because their damage is way too low. Disruptors seem to be a lot better for PvE, since most players have armor as good at resisting acid as energy anyway, and their damage/APare inferior to the T21's but their HAM costs can be quite high. Their main advantage is their accuracy mod, but you can get a laser rifle made with excellent accuracy mods also and their HAM costs are a little lower than the disruptor's I think...plus they're cheaper. As for Berserkers, haven't tried one yet but its lack of AP doesn't make it very appealing to use in PvP.

I have a bad feeling about this nerf

The professions are fine (except pikeman) but armor is out of control.
