Thread: taking out lairs fast?

I have a question for those of you who in the know. What is the fastest way to take out these big 64k ham lairs. I use a spare laser rifle and flushing shot 2. (best shot i have right now 3/2/3/3). I was wondering if maybe it would be faster to use a speed sliced spray stick with a max damage powerup. right now is takes me 3 times to destroy the lair as it does its occupants :/ any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It's silly that the lairs really do take 3x longer than the occupants, but I'd say to stick with the Laser Rifle and Flushingshot 2. Unless you've got an extra T-21 to use just for lairs. Throw a speed or damage power-up on one of those and you may go a bit faster. Other than that, you're probably doing it as fast as you can expect at this point. At MR (if you have or will have rifle speed SEAs) switch from Flushing 2 to Strafe 2.

I agree with Kez....

You can get high-damage laser rifles fairly cheap these days, so dont worry about wearing them out. Once I kill the occupants, I almost always grab my laser and spam my highest damage shot (in my case Strafe Shot 2, but you are right to use Flushing Shot 2 at your level).
When you reach master, if you have a decent (not "uber") laser, you should be hitting lairs for up to 4000 damage per SS2 at once per second. Note: I said "up to 4000" damage. You will also see those crappy "less than a 1000" hits because of the low min damage from a laser).

Until you get at or very near the speed cap, you should always go with a speed powerup. A 33% max damage powerup will raise the average damage of the weapon by 24% (because min damage stays the same). A 16% min/ 33% max damage powerup will raise the average damage by about 28.5%. Since the speed stays the same, the DPS (damage per second -- a measure averaging damage over time) goes up by the new average damage. That is, over the same time period, you willaverage24% more damage with the 33% max damage powerup and 28.5%more damage with the 16% min/ 33% max damage variety. On the other hand, a speed powerup causes you to fire the current average damage 33% more often. Thus, over that same time frame, you will be doing 33% more damage. So until you get very near the speed cap, a speed powerup actually raises your DPS more than the others.

This is no longer true when you reach the speed cap because no matter how much faster your weapon is, you are not going to fire any faster than 1 shot per second. Therefore more speed does not affect your DPS. At this point, go with the damage powerups.

Speed sliced spraystick here jsut spam my biggest hitting special and wait it out (generally no faster using a Laser from my experience it jsut boils down to which is the cheaper alternative)!

I ussually just get a spraystick or a laser rifle that I don't use and let it auto-fire for a while and go so something else.

I had a DLT20a that I used for killing lairs prior to Mastering. Low HAM costs and high speed made it worthwhile.

Yeah DLT20's aren't bad either but since I made a boo boo with a shcematic number I am left with ~485 spraysticks so I have to use em somehow (and yes its possible don't ask why tho suffice it to say I had my resources/parts etc in the input hopper to save room in my shop and I mistyped the number 50 )!
