It seems every other profession complains of the OPness of riflemen, but when i come here the attitude is far different. Is it just the bias of being the strongest profession or are riflemen not as uber as they are cracked up to be?

In every mmorpg i've played, certain classes will be accused of being overpowered, and without fail the class members argue that they are not in the forums. Thats just how it is.

But yes, riflemen rock

rifleman alone dont rock, its what you put with it that make you deadly, AKA master marksman..... I know it may seem wierd but that +5 bonus to speed makes me a machine gun when I have brandy and canape. With good defenses from other professions, and some good armor, you can do some awesome stuff with that there T21/DX6/Jawa/SG what ever it is that does cold. I find it such a good combo I dont carry a laser anymore as my T21 is fast. I put TKA skills with it and I lay waste to lots and lots of things

This is a general rule for "the best PvP Profession"....

...All professions are the "best" PvP professions, if their owner knows what they're doing.

Take me, the Doc/Rifleman for instance. In a one-on-one duel, i will most likely die every time. Why? Because that's not my strength. My strength is heavy support in PvP. Sit back, snipe those stupid CM's, and keep them down. And heal myself. Also, snipe the Melee classes. Pretty much snipe anything that i can. oh, and steal DB's mwa ha ha.

Really, I'm a Doc/Rifleman and unless I'm outnumbered I'm almost impossible to kill. I eat TKAs and crap CMs........lol.

we are not unbeatable for example someone that has played rifleman for ... MANY mothns knows our every weekness(tht is if u PvP) and know a way to kill usit's all tactics fencers will be nerfed anyway Cm will be nerfed but still a bounty hunter(master of course) can own us with the right tools and any other prof learn to use your prof's ablilities and skills wisely and nothing is unbeatable

Well I think it is how prepared you are. Last night I dueled 3 master fencers. I did it with kahless listed below. I managed to beat 2 of them but the 3rd one got help as I was overt and I changed my stupid ForceOfWill macro and it didnt work. Lol I didnt use my equilibrium either. The point is if you are prepared you can do decent or at least last a long time. I had his mind gone but wow he hit me with a buttload of dot's. Maybe he still would have won, who knows.. No excuses he won fair and square..

Its funny how against one opponent my sonic pistol did not touch him so I switched to acid and it did a little damage, finally I use the jawa on his mind. Took forever but I finally got him. On a different opponent I could not seem to touch his mind. It was a pesky fencer wookiee, Yes I said wookiee.I could not touch his mind for some reason so I hit him with my pistol and finally wore him down.

In all of these fights I was posture changed KD and blinded but I was only ever down for at the most 10 seconds. So kiting was effective. Of course had they ran inside it would have been a standoff I think as my pistol takes too long up close. So a lot of it is how well you are prepared I think.

The way I look at is there are only so many ways to get enough dmg through composite armor. Riflemen happen to have good weapons to counter composite which is why we are looked at as uber.

Are there other ways to counter the heavily armored and heavily buffed pvper? Sure, and better ways, but rifleman seems to be the most straight forward and allows the most skill points left over to stack defense. We can also do our dmg effectively from long range in a support role which makes us attractive to crafting professionals that want to help out in guild battles.

You could be a pikeman and look for months or pay lots of money for DOT pikes and 900dmg lances that will make you nasty in pvp and more effective than a rifleman, but at the same time why not master pike and rifleman and be even nastier. Same goes for fencers and swordsman and tka. I think it all comes down to templates that are great pvp templates, and in most of those templates rifleman can be a great asset.

Second it comes down to the player. Most good pvpers know what it takes to kill people and survive, if you are new to the pvp game there is a learning curve and some people learn faster than others. A lot of people get killed by a rifleman and think they will go master rifleman and be a good pvper, and that isn't the case.

rifleman alone really does not do well in PvP as other peopel above me stated.

it is what you have with it that counts. i was rifleman / ch / medic since game launched.

naturally i sucked real big in PvP. so i toned down the medic to bare essentials (stim Bs and 1st aid), and switched teh CH/Scout for Fencer/TKA

wanna guess how my new template is working out ?

also, prepairdness really makes a huge difference. especially foods and drinks. when you start make sure you are buffed by docs / musiciand / dancers. save the drink and food space and use teh appropriate drink/food in battle againts your opponent.

if he goes for KDs and dizzy, eat/drink +kd, dizzy resist food. if he busts a jawa and or goes for mindpool, stack some brandys and save space for milk. spices are bad idea in my experience since duels often outlast their effects and teh downers will kill you.

you need to have 3 sets of armor, or at least 3 sets of chest, helm, legs on a macro so you can switch them as needed. 1 for kinetic, 1 for energy, 1 for stun. you can have more but then invi will be very cluttered.

have stims and powerups ready.

poison weapons help. and not just mind poison (a strong health or action poison can be very annoying to your opponent), open up with them then switch to regular.

It is one of the 3 strongest in PvP right now. The other two are Fencer and Combat Medic.

I'm a master rifleman and a master squad leader heh. Not even master weaponsmith but if someone gets themselves locked up in a city that I can snipe them in (*cough* Ancorhead *cough*) I can still take them out pretty easily. Tends to be the case that people LET riflemen kite and snipe them.

I have to note, some of these guys I had holed up were riflemen themselves. So its not just the damn class.

No matter how "smart" the owner is, a carbineer will never beat a riflemen in PvP.
