Thread: Which rifle for early grind?

Which rifle do you use for early grinding (up to novice rifleman and the few first skill boxes)? Speed is pretty bad with lower levels. Think Laser is a good choice but maybe a (cheap) Krayted E11/form-fit stockis another choice. However, I have a VERY good Laser rifle (680 max dam 5.4 speed w/o powerup).

My holos (on my alt) have been very good to me. First I got Fencer which I thought of taking anyway. Was first planning to go rifleman but changed to pistoleer (defense stacking and that it hit same HAM pool) but started to think about rifles again since it is a lot better for high-level PvE. But could not decide. Then I used my second holo (I really dont grind so it have taken some time) after mastering Fencer yesterday it said Rifleman. That settled it lol. Fencer/Rifleman is not a bad combo even if I can't stack dodge.

Up to novice I used a spraystick on regular quenkers, once I hit novice I used a speedsliced for until countersniping 2 and after that I just used my DXR-6b rifle... going for flushing2 first. I done it with t21 solely on quenkers as well, but now I get xp from shooting rebel NPC's at player bases... this works good I think for me, better then when I headshot/concealed shot quenkers with t21 when I did rifleman before.

Use that nice laser up to novice (if you dont mind wasting some condition) then switch to speed sliced t-21's with pups untill master.

Forget about using damage sliced rifles for now until you finish the rifle speed tree, use a speed sliced LR or DXR6b (once you get 0020) and you'll go up faster. I use a 3.9 speed sliced LR (2.7 with 33% speed powerup) and a 4.1 speed sliced DXR6b, once I'm done rifleman I'm going to be picking up the damage sliced ones.

Bermag,

Welcome to Rifleman. I used mostly a Laser Rifle with a damage slice and damage powerup. The Laser Rifle is faster than the T21 and the HAM costs were a bit lower. But this was in the time before buffs, armor, and good Chef foods.

Speed is going to be slow for awhile. Use your Combat XP to go up in Rifleman Abilities as soon as you can. Dantooine is a good location to grind XP for the combat professions. Queker missions are popular since you can HeadShot them fairly easily.

Don't be afraid to use Aim. It will increase your hit chances which is very helpful at lower levels. Especially if using ConcealShot.

Your Laser Rifle seems to be fairly good. As for putting a speed or damage powerup on it. Best thing is to figure out the damage over a one minute period. See which way it would come out ahead.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me in game. I'm on the same server as you.

hey my favorite weapons vendor... I have purchased quite a few rifles from you. the best to stick with is a good laser rifle. once novice t21 speed sliced and speed powerup, a -/-/2/- use the dx6 :and you will be set!

coming back to SWG to find things have come full swing and your profession is useful again: AWESOME!

I disagree that damage per minute (or second)is always the most important measure. A rifleman will often be looking to one-shot prey if possible, and for that min/max damage is key. If most targets can be dropped before they close on you, your progress will be faster.

DPS is the keymeasure if you are using a tank for larger targets.

Remember too, that you can switch rifles quickly.Use laser for the first few shots (aim the first)then switch to a spraystick when (if!)the target closes.

Another good move is a harvesting droid for a rifleman. Then you aren't having to get up and harvest, which wastes time and is often impractical, but the corpses can poof before the lair is done. Your income can greatly improve. I have one that harvests, stores, has minor combat ability (so it can tank), and has a stimpack dispenser as well. An R3, it has enough HAM to last a long time against something large. A bit expensive, but payed for itself in meat.

I used a speed sliced e-11 (low hams, 3.2 speed, ap2), which allowed me to yo-yo decently. How's that for old-school?? Anyone else remember yo-yo ing??

Get a few spray sticks. Have them sliced. Add speed powerups. Then overChargeShot or overChargeShot2 if you have it (Master Marksman) and you gind so quick your eyes will pop.

Get a speedsliced/powered upt21 when you you get to concealShot. If you get attacked headShot2. Work your way up the tree on the left.

When you get them macro a /mindShot (or whatever the bleed one is) then spam /headShot3. This works amazing.

Quenker missions are so easy the down side is having to ride back to a terminal every two minutes to get more.

A high speed sliced E11 rifle is nice and often overlooked... lower HAM cost,a greatspeed slice should get it to 3.0 (then add a speed power-up). Not as much damage as a Laser but a tighter damage range, and faster.

available with rifles 4??

Waste,

Ehh, "fairly good"lol. That is the best Laser I have seen so far (is better than most T-21s even with the extra AP bonus). 905 max dam with dam powerup. However, I prefer using a speed powerup which get speed to 3.6 or so. Still get pretty nervous of the slow speed. I am used to high speed with fencer and carbineer. But even with HS2 I hit for 3-4k. Not bad for 3 boxes in marksman.

Going to make a Krayt T-21 (only+30 tissues though) using some nice legendary stocks I have (23-38 max dam only 0.1 speed penalty, no HAM cost and most important +61 accuracy. Accuracy is usually bad with T-21 since it don't have any scope). If I get a speed slice I guess that will be a fair grinding rifle to use.

HAM cost seems very easy to deal with so far. Guess it will be worse when I fire specials at higher rate but now I can use only chef buffs with no problem. Does not use that much health and action. When using fencer/carbineer I need to buff all pools to get down HAM cost. Well compared with Carbineer everything seems light on HAM use lol (there isa reason that doctor is very popular among carbineers as second profession)

Thanks for your advice (everyone).
