Thread: Question about speed; Rifles vs. Pistols.

Well, I heard that once you reach Master Rifleman or Pistoleer, you fire at a 1 second interval with almost all speeds of weapon. This being said, my question is; wouldn't it be more useful to use a Rifle(having high damage), firing at once per second, than using a Pistol(having low damage), firing at once per second?


Is there something I'm missing?

The answer to your question is simple -- it is better to shoot a high damage rifle once per second than it is to shoot a pistol once per second. The problem is that your question is based on faulty information -- a Rifleman does not hit the speed cap at Master.


Master Rifleman has a speed bonus of 90, (95 if he has also mastered Marksman). This doesn't cap your speed for strafe 2 with a high damage gun. (Like a good T21). To hit the speed cap you need 97 for 99% of the guns you are likely to shoot, and 98 if your gun is grossly slow. (8 seconds plus).


Those 7 (or 2) points don't sound like much, but they make a huge difference in rate of fire. If you check out your galaxies's trade forum, you are likely to see rifle speed attachments going for many millions of credits. The Holy Grail of hitting the speed cap is the reason these attachments are so valuable.

Of course with the new combat balance, all the stuff I wrote above will no doubt be meaningless, but for now it still applies.

Besides what Whatnot said about the speed cap and not actually hitting it. You are also not considering like stat changes and defenses, but if you want to blind and play this is why riflemen should be nerfed go ahead. Please stop trolling and go play the game instead.

Yes it is more useful to be firing a high damage rifle then a pistol. Why do you think army's are issued rifles for combat. A pistol is nothing more then a side arm for emergencies.

where do u get low dmg for pistols? i have a 411 jawa and i have seen alot of 500+ sonic blasters. Since in pvp armor piercing is broken there is absalutly no difference with my light armor piercing so why should pistols get a higher dmg weapon when i have something that is supposed to be doing a ton more.

You can't fire at the speed cap with Master Pistoleer unless its a really low speed gun.

The game is so borked head to toe that there's no resemblance of realism, or even the dream the devs had for the game. Professions aren't used the way they were meant. Armor isn't as much an encumberance problem. Distances are equalled with attachments. There's simply too many by-passes to the system.


So simply take it to heart that the game is broke. It's still fun to a degree, but broke none the less.

As pistoleer and BH pistols template with average geo pistol i could spam eyeshot all day and win with ease vs most. Avg being about 180 dam. However now that i have rifleman i notice the damage is much greater but at a extremely higher ham cost to mind. Didnt know what a musician was till i got Rifleman . The speed in both seem to be equal to me. Actually just pistoleer alone really sucked so i gave it up and tried rifles. Rifles was only goin to be temporary on way to fencer but i have quickly fallen in love with my t21 and my geo rifle. And snipershot is the shizzzzle in PVP.

ap for pvp is most definetly not broken. How do you think swordsman or carbineers do any kind of damage at all in pvp? Because they have ap2.

And lets face it, the jawa is a weak rifle. The only thing that makes them any good is their stun damage. My Jawa is krayted at about 435 and is barely half the damage of most of my rifles which have AP2 and AP3.

This was tested in great detail by several correspondents and ignored by the devs. PVE and PVP use completely different armor piercing equations. There is no 25% bonus for each level of AP in PVP.
