Thread: Why I LOVE Rifleman
I lurk more than I post in the forums, and I've been reading all the posts about how riflemen just flat out suck, and the 2.5x melee damage modifier sucks, and our HAM costs are too high. Anyhow, I just wanted to say that I think rifleman is a great profession, and if you are just starting out, don't read all these negative posts and get discouraged. I started out by mastering TK, and I couldn't fight anything harder than a nightsister initiate without getting owned, so riflemen has been a nice change.
First of all, there is no creature in the entire game that I can't solo as a master rifleman and master CH. Mind shot 1, mind shot 2, and spam head shot 2, and in about 2 minutes that canyon krayts mind pool will decimated. Soloing big mob's is really dependant on being a master CH. If you are a rebel I would highly recomend getting some CH to go along with your rifle skills, if you are an imp get you a couple of AT's. I'm a rebel, I have no AT ST's, and I can solo Dark Jedi Masters, Canyon Krayts, the Gorax from the maurader quests, all with 2 grauls, a T21, and some strategy. So can you, and it's awesome!
Our biggest complaints are the 2.5x melee damage modifier and the HAM costs. I don't really mind those so much because they make our class fit into the overall balace of the game as a whole. I deal with our HAM costs by using power-ups, muon gold, and eating mind food. I can fire off headshot 2 non stop for 10 minutes if I am enhanced and on muon gold, and my HAM bar won't budge. The entire game economy is designed so that each profession is dependant on several other ones, and believe me, the smugglers on Valcyn have made a ton of money off me buying muon gold, and I think that's ok, that's the way the game is meant to be played.
Now, I don't really like the 2.5x melee damage modifier, but I understand why we have it.Getting taken out by some low level mob that hits me for 300 damage is horrible, but that hardly ever happens, because nothing ever touches me. If something gets close enough to me to hit me melee, I'm playing rifleman wrong. Which brings me to something that really does mess up our profession: warping mobs. This is something that we should really be complaining about. If the designers would fix whatever pathfinding issues they have, then we wouldn't have to worry so much about the 2.5x damage. I really think the pathfinding issue should be somewhere at the top of our list.
There are a couple of things I do have problems with, but there's still nothing that will keep me from owning every mob there is out there. As I said above, the pathfinding issue is really frustrating, having something warp on top of you is the worst. I'd also like to see Tuskan rifles get fixed, they need to do kinetic damage, there are too many mobs out there that have energy resistance (night sister spellweavers for instance, light armor, 100% energy resistance, 10% kinetic), and not having the ability to do kinetic damage is a big hinderance to our profession.
A couple of tips for people that are just starting rifle to make it more fun:
1. Get some kind of pet, take levels in CH.
2. Get a SG82 and Jawa Ion, and a Tusken when they get fixed so you can do different types of damage.
3. Get Sniping 4 first, then counter sniping, then concealment.
4. Get an ubese shirt, and get ANY shield generator. Don't wear any armor. I've seen ubese shirts that only 1 or 2 vunerabilities and the light armor rating it gives will reduce your damage by 50% against mobs that have no AP attack, and that's most of your low level mobs. Shield generators are kinda buggy, everytime you load the stats on them change, so don't spend a lot on some awesome looking Mk.3 with 30% all resistances.
5. Hotkey your rifle, unequip it if something gets too close and run.
6. Get all the ranged support boxes in marksman, keep warning shot hotkeyed.
7. Max out all your mind stats, and evenly distribute your remaning stats out over your health and action pools.
8. Make friends with a smuggler, a weaponsmith and a chef. Always buy from the same person. Get weapon power ups that reduce mind cost, I've seen ones that reduce mind 24%, reduce action 8%, increase speed 11%, and add something to wound chance %. There are also ones that Add 30% max damage, and reduce mind by 15%. Get muon gold from your smuggler, and tat sunburns and fried ice cream from a chef.
9. Stack your bleeds! Your hotkeys should be something like: F5: Mindshot 1 F6: Mindshot 2 F7: Headshot 2. Target your mob and hit F5 F6 F7 F7 F7 F7 F7 .....
That's all I can think to write about the most awesome profession in the game, if there is something that youlove about rifleman, post it here.
That has to be sliced for speed, and when you get to master sharpshooter, you don't need speed slices anymore, you need damage. Every T21 I have seen has a base speed of 7.1 or 7.2 before it is sliced.
I was just now doing arachne pack lairs on Endor, I drank one sunburn, ate one ice cream, dropped a muon gold, powered up my good ol' T21, and it took meless than10 seconds to kill an arachne warrior. I get the whole lair finished before the ice cream wears off and go through two power ups. Little -37's flying over my head every second, all blurred together.
thats no lie...MCH + anything.. you get a graul or two tanking andi'll bet moneyyou can own anything with a rifle.
im a low level CH with a GSP and a 4,1,1,2 rifleman. i can solo gondula ewok lairs on endor with no problem.
getting up the sniper branch was key and getting a fantastic laser rifle 2.7spd, didnt hurt either.
this post is pointless. As long as you have master creature handler you can use any other combat profession to solo just about everything in the game. CH is ridiculous, you can power lvl throughANY ranged weapon profession with it.
Lets see how much fun this guy has with 'sharpshooter' after you take his pets away.
