Thread: Interesting discoveries this weekend

Affirmative.
Works just like it does when you're prone and under cover. The critter doesn't notice you and you can stand there and chip away at his HAM bars.
Note, however, that you are less accurate while standing, and thus more likely to miss, and thus more likely to draw the unwanted attention of whatever you're shooting.
hehe..
looks like they fixed concealshot TOO well!
now you gotta wonder - do you ask them to fix it so it works as advertised? or do you keep your mouth shut because if they try and fix it, they will likely break it in a much less pleasing way..

Surprise Shot appears to still be broken. Tried using it for the first time this weekend. Went prone, fired, and hit. Target detected me after the second shot. From the description I assumed it was like Conceal Shot. The critters friend BAF'd on me after the first Surprise Shot also.
I had no problems with Conceal however.
I had the same experience as Waste93. First surprise shot brought no attention. Second surprise shot got everyones attention. I can spam conceal shot all day long as long as I don't miss too often.
Not Applicable
see the thing is though, you would think surpriseshot would work just like concealshot... but the description of the shot does not back that up.
true it (surpriseshot) says it needs cover, and that is broken. if they fix that then imo they should either make it work like concealshot (but what is the point really?) or up the multiplier to x5 and leave it.
concealshot despite having conceal in the name doesn't require cover and the description (if i remember correctly) doesn't state that it should. it's always been this way and imo i think it should stay... requiring cover when you are lower on the tree is a horrible pain in the ass with most mobs.
you know what i wish i could do? fire from sitting.
NOS - you haven't had any problems taking cover? that's interesting...
do you use any specific tactics to do it? as in, stop for a certain number of seconds, posture down to kneel or prone first, then /takecover - etc?
lately i just hit my /takecover macro and i end up having to do it up to 6 times. it's very strange.I'll try the slow-down/posture down technique, see if that fixes it. -not that i need it now that i know concealshot works without!
Surprise shot has always been only 1 free shot, that is why it is much more powerful than conceal shot. I also have used it as my anytime single target random ham heavy hitter.
It can be fired any time from any stance and does the same damage. HOWEVER, if you are not in cover, you are imediately aggroed. (have not checked this since the patch)
I'm having the same problem, Jeisyn. Whenever I hit the Takecover macro, it seems to fail on me at least 50% of the time. Very annoying. ( You'd think at Master you should be able to take cover 95% of the time on the first try...)
It's also, funny enough, the way I found out that Conceal doesn't require you to be in cover to work. I got sick of trying to cover after 2 failed attempts and just hit the Concealshot button 3 or 4 times anyway.....and much to my surprise it worked. It works when prone, kneeling, or standing, no real difference....
You can fire Conceal Shot from a kneeling or standing position, and it works just like normal.
You can fire Surprise Shot from a non-covered state, despite the description claiming that it must be fired from cover.
You can fire Surprise Shot from a kneeling or standing position.
The Sneak ability you get with Concealment 3 gives you the ability to Peace while under Cover. (Before you get Sneak, you can't Peace while under Cover. You get a message saying "You cannot Peace while immobilized.")
You cannot Fish while Sitting. (I actually discovered this a long time ago, but I thought it was funny so I'm mentioning it.)
Interesting post, volsted:
i've been using Surprise shot as my "single target random ham" damage dealing shot for a long time - it's always worked out of cover, even though the description says otherwise.
i have never tried concealshot out of cover - but with the dmg multiplier, surprise shot is a better option. lol
note: does concealshot actually "conceal" you when you're not in cover????
According to the styles thread, concealshot is 3.0x speed 2.5x damage, and surpriseshot is 3.0x speed 3.0x damage, both random pool. Flurry 1 is a better single target random pool damage dealer at 2.0x speed 2.5x damage.
Surprise shot seems completely useless.
number of attempts (using /takecover from prone position): 50
number of successful attempts: 31
these results are results are very disturbing. This means at master rifleman you have just about a 55% chance of taking cover on your 1st try. Each attempt takes a decent amount of HAM, which adds up adter you fail 3-4 times in a row.
