Thread: headshot 2 vs headshot 3?

Ok, the only time I seen this discussed headshot 3 was summarily dismissed for ham cost. But when you can eliminate ham cost, which is better?


Which has the best dmg/delay ratio, I mean? Speed *is* an issue since i am not master.

I thought head shot 3 was a great pick up of a skill when I got it. With a good mind buff and mind food you can't go wrong.

It's really wierd, but since the last publish, I've been getting better results from HS2.


Example: (this is only an example, but it's along the lines of what I've been getting)


HS3 - 1500 damage (?)

HS2 - 2200 damage (!)


I couldn't believe it the first time I saw it, but repeated combats have shown it over and over. Did someone switch the HeadShot damage ranges around or something?

If HAM is not an issue, which is my case, you have to figure out if you can fire HS3 at the 1 sec. cap. If you can, use HS3 instead of HS2 for the damage since both are firing at 1 sec.

Lots of info about *if* i'm about to shoot at the speed cap. I'm not.


Has anyone done any analysis of the Delay mod, and Dmg mod on these attacks? Naturally the DMG mod on headshot 3 is higher, but so is the delay


I know with pistoleer the raw Damage per second on Healthshot 2 was actually better than healthshot 3. ONLY If you could hit the cap would you use healthshot3.


What i'm hoping to find out is if this is the case with the head shot line.


I am currently only at +50 speed, so no I'm not likely to hit the cap with either skill any time soon.

Headshot2 does 2.5x the damage, 1.75 speed mod, and 5x mind costs modifier.


Headshot3 does 3.0x the damage, 2.0 speed mod, and 7x mind costs.


You did not mention your current skill layout, but let us assume that you are at Rifle Special abilities III with a speed mod of 60 and you are using a T21 with a 7 second delay.


Actual Speed = Weapon speed * special dealy * (1 - (personal speed mod * .01))


HS2 Speed = 7 * 1.75 * (1 - (60 * .01)) = 4.9 seconds per shot


HS3 Speed = 7 * 2 * (1 - (60 * .01)) = 5.6 seconds per shot


If you get a hit for 500, for HS2, that would be 1,250 before armor and resistances are factored in. For HS3, it would be 1,500. That would give you a DPS of 255 for HS2 and 268 for HS3. That is an increase of about 5% DPS to go to HS3. However, the HAM costs would be 28.5% per shot more to achieve that 5% extra damage per second.


So without eliminating the HAM costs with high focus, you can see that the damage increase for HS3 is not worth the extra mind drain. So unbuffed, you are better off with HS2. At Master, speed will be less of an issue, so the gap between the DPS for the two will widen, but the HAM costs will still be an issue , but if you are buffed, HS3 will be managable, so it will be the far better choice.

Good info. Hope its accurate =). When I asked for this info on the pikeman board they bumped a table like that and more than half the figures were wrong heh.


If it is accurate, would look like hs3 is about the same dps as hs2 ... would explain why no one uses hs3 since its more ham for the same result.

well, full out damage is better in PvP than greater damage over time, cuz there is no "over time" in pvp

well for me if i go for the mind its Master Headshot... but i also have +7 in speed attachments and get my focus so high that the mind cost is 0... perslice my T-21 is 402 max damage with a 105 mind cost...


get yourself a max speed, speed sliced T-21, should be about a 4.9 speed then... if you want to shoot faster still get a speed/mind WPU, or more damage get a min/max damage WPU... or usea nice laser rifle with a nice min damage/speed/mind WPU...

hm wierd turn out. Head shot 3 is much stronger than head shot 2 for me.




EDIT. and look up top for the rifleman FAQ. All the attacks are show with delay and mods.
