Thread: How Do Rifleman View Themselves? (From a Carbineer)

I'm curious as to how Rifleman view themselves overall...overpowered, underpowered...right where they are?


I speak from knowledge...easily more than 50% of the players on Eclipse are now rifleman. And of those 90% are using a Rifles/TKA/Fencer for defenses (which are fixed thankfully..sort of at least)


In MY opinion, I think its stun weapons, not rifleman that are overpowered...strafeshot2 is great, but in PvP it acts the same as Fanshot can...(with a great pistol) or BurstShot2 will.


Do rifleman feel they are okay as it is? Personally the class itself is working as the damage class for PvE/PvP...but I believe Stun weapons kinda ruined everything. No one uses actual skill on Eclipse, they get buffed, get armor...grab an Ion rifle, and use it.


But you have to admit...if Jawa Ion Rifles are that good...Jawa's should rule the world.


So seriously folks...How do you think of yourselves.


Like I've said...I don't believe they are overpowered...I believe Stun weapons in General are (especially when resources for Stun defense layers....spawn on Eclipse basically...well never)


But Remember...Rumor is Rifleman get a 3 second Cap...Carbineers get a 2 second Cap. So if they nerf speed, I feel for ya --


I'd appreciate any/all responses...what I got from Pistoleer players is "We're not as good as Rifleman or Carbineers, people only pick up Pistoleer to do Smuggler."

I think we are almost balanced. Bring back the 2.5x, or fix the bloody to-hit bug, and we will be.


I've been a rifleman since release, and leveling was HARD for a long time. Then, in the span of two months, everything changed. We got 3 enhances, and no drawbacks. Throw in a gun that eats Compo for breakfastplus a bug that makes you damn hard to hit, and you have issues.


My solution would be to bring back the 2.5x, remove the melee to-hit deal, and make the Jawa ap:0. We can still eat any dumbass without a stun layer, but having one will make a big difference. It will also give me an excuse you brain you faster with my sick t-21 (440 max, no pu, no stock)

We are the one ranged profession closest to balance...


Unfortunately we fall on the overpowered side of ballanced whereas everybody else is on the underpowered side, which makes the gap that much worse.

I think rifleman has a little too much accuracy but besides that is balanced(Maybe a little less defence would be good also).


Though I do feel buffs and armor are way overpowered, I mean with the current armor system only one damage type matters(Stun). Oh and you can't tell me that Spamming yourMost Expensivespecial an hour straight while in composite is intended, buffs are way overpowered too.

I completely agree with Psyco, I feel that buffs are beyond reproach and are one of the main things that caused us to be deemed "uber" After all, who will attack a pool so large they can't make a dent and by the time they do dent it even the slowest witted person would have been able to hotkey his stim and be fine. Armor just needs to be tweaked so that the pro's have sufficient cons.


As for ourselves. Well we were horrible in the beginning thanks primarilly to game bugs and not riflemen bugs. It only makes sense that we become overpowered due to game bugs and not riflemen ones. We are harder to hit then we should be, personal generators that would add extra protection against us (mainly the jawa) is bugged to randomly have a vulnerability, AoE effects us a bit more often since we have 3 truly useful shots 2 of which are AoE, we are a great piece of a stacker's puzzle and since we are good damage dealers they use us as their offense while their defense is beyond reproach, and mind damage is the determinant in a fight because buffing has thrown PvP to hell. Fix those bugs/"exploits" and we won't be anywhere near as great as people say we are. Plus the spraystick and tusken are broken but that isn't a major difference just something the developers won't spend 4 seconds repairing.


We do damage, raw and powerful. That is our talent. Other classes do other things best, for instance dizzying or knocking people down over an area effectively reducing their damage to zero ala carabineers. (tomorrow for you guys, yay) So we are working pretty well as we are. While I would like a gun tailored to our sniper part (massive damage and wait)and tone down the T-21 to be a little bit less powerful, but only by a tad, I don't mind only being a machine gunning grunt. Afterall as soon as I think rifleman I think of both snipers and the guys in the trenches but realize there are a lot fewer snipers then infantrymen

Well its not the jawa ion rifle wich makes it so tough...its armor....its just rediculous to have ultra resist for everything. they should bring in more vulnerabilites..depending on the armor type

Wow! Thanks for the responses everyone, (and for understanding I'm not calling for a rifleman nerf or anything, I'm not like that)


What you've said basically fits what I thought, it's not that rifleman are "uber"...it's that other classes are not up-to-par, balanced, and don't have enough options.


Take carbineers for instance...the Devs gave us decent specials...but not enough speed to really use them, good accuracy....but then accuracy while moving bonuses that are negated...because when you are moving you have a huge negative attack modifier added on.


I think you are right about the armor...either have MORE vulnerable sections...or ZERO vulnerable items. Asa carbineer we have like...three damage types, acid, heat and energy. I have tons of fun penetrating armor. Even AP2 still doesn't do the trick.


It's curious how people view themselves so...


Rifleman - "Right where we should be, just other classes aren't where they should be."
Carbineers - "Good class getting better...but we're not sure what is desired for Carbineers."

Pistoleers - "Only used to supplement BH Pistols, Smuggler, or as the 'smallest' combat profession for a tailor, entertainer..."


I agree, I think every combat class should almost equal each other out...I picture Carbines in *this* game as short ranged, extremely rapid fire weapons with moderate damage...rifles in *this* game as long range, rapid fire extremely heavy damage...pistols in *this* game as short range, extremely high accuracy, heavy damage.


I use the term *this* game because these weapons have no comparison to how weapons are IRL...we all know there's a big move away from rifles as base weapons...to the new assault weapons being designed for shorter-ranged urban settings....with extreme muzzle velocity and immense damage. (Because it appears Urban environments are the battlefields of the future.)


Personally...I think every class should have something similar to "sniper shot." Rifleman from 60m in can use it...Carbineers from 25m can...Pistoleers from 15m in...afterall if you shoot an incapped body with a laser blast, it's gonna kill it either way. (but this might take away from part of riflemans appeal)


I believe every class needs its place, and as a Carbineer am willing to let rifleman have the "glory" so to speak...but right now my only option is to use KD/Dizzy *which I despise* to even be good in combat.


Lots of Carbineers want a stun carbine...I almost think it makes no sense. Then again...Stormtroopers were armed with carbines that had a stun "setting" in A New Hope.

About defenses...


I'm a Carbineer + BH Carbine Line


2 Melee Defense (What is that some kind of joke?)

37 Ranged Defense

105 Counterattack


I was almost insulted when I saw the 2 melee defense, I still can't even FIND where it came from. None of my attachments add that...but seriously, +2? Apparently I can make sure a kreetle or nuna can't hurt me.


Defenses are being worked on...but still, Master Dancers have like +7 to Ranged/Melee Defense.

yeah, this is blatantly wrong, guy. apart from tka, we have the best overall defenses in the game for ranged/melee. granted, our state defenses are useless, but ranged def. goes a long way.

Yes, they need to fix the to-hit bug.


No, 2.5x melee modifier is not the answer. That is the lazy Devs answer. Instead of fixing the range mods the way they should be, they just slap a melee mod into the game................lol. Riflemen should have a horendous mod for under 20meters (like -50). Just as pistoleers should have the same -50 mod for anything over 30ish-40ish meters. That will never happen though, that would involve NOT working on crafting nerfs that are going to be hotfixed the day after it goes live..........lol.

bull look at commanos or bh or even carbiners they dont have 1/3 the defences a riflemen has in stat defence and expacily rang and melee come on man just becous you wan be uber l33te


dosn't mean you have to spout off no fact stuff and lie to your self hell i loved being uber when i was a defence staker


tho i do agree that if the devs stop messing with stuff that works fine and actuly fix stuff this game be 100x better
