From TH's 19 answer thread.

Rifleman

What is the Development team’s vision for Rifleman with the upcoming combat system overhaul?

The vision for the rifleman hasn’t changed. They are still intended to be the long range snipers and that will stay the same. What will change is the mechanical balance - - especially with the HAM revamp portion of the CB. The new HAM system will be much more dynamic and as a result will change the focus on “mind hits”. I don’t know to what degree, but that is something that will surely be looked at.

Just in case you missed that....

long range snipers

huh??????

We have the same range as every other ranged weapon. We cannot be snipers (1 hit. 1 kill) since it would be far too unbalanced in PvP. Wasn't this discussed to death already?

Is this what we can expect from the combat balance? Low speed, hard hitting, long ranged fighters?

I seriously hope not.

There is no long range fighting in SWG. 64m is close range by most definitions.

Maybe they are finally looking into the Accuracy / Weapon range stuff in the combat balance, maybe the Short range fighters ( pistols ) wont be able to hit the broad side of a barn at 64m and we won't be any where nearaccurate at melee range. I guess that would make us long range shooters even if it is only 64m heh!

Some Clarification would be good though..

That would be super to make us completely inaccurate at <20m. Then we'd have like what? 8 seconds before that TK was on us and we were completely unable to defend ourself?

Quarter the running speed so we're not all running 3 minute miles for marathon distances and maybe I'll buy it.

It's true, it seems a bit over the top but when you think about all the offence we get for the 92 Skill Points spent it's probably a reasonable tradeoff. I guess that's where those extra 158 SP come in, the game wants you to take up a second Melee Prof to balance the template better. I've read a few times that the Combat Balance was / is supposed to give each Prof it's own unique Place in the GCW..

I've thought about it a bit and if we get to keep Long range Accuracy, Heavy AP, High Speed and High DPS then lack of defence againstMelee Ranged Opponentsis definitely where I'd want the balancing factor to be, and it kind of already is except we still have pretty good accuracy inside 20m. At least it means you can take up Pistoleer or a Melee prof to give you the edge when things get in close.

That is of course based on the assumption that we keep Heavy AP, High Speed and High DPS...

In January, 1967, Carlos Hathcock sniped an enemy from a distance of 2,250 meters.
On Sept. 21, 1969, Steve O'Neal punted a football over 89 meters.
On May 27, 1991, Paul Tavilla caught a grape, thrown from ground level 99.82 meters away, in his mouth.
On July 20, 1993, Jack Hamm hit a golf ball 418.78 meters.
On July 9, 1998, Justin Huish shot an Olympic target from 92.35 meters away with a bow and arrow.
On Sept. 19, 1998, the Aludium Q-35 Pumpkin Modulator blasted a pumpkin 1,369 meters, which is just damm cool.
Lately, an unidentified Canadian sniper killed an enemy from 2430 meters.

"64 meters" and "long-range" just don't fit into the same sentence...

That's Awesome!! Where do I get one?

And I agree DV.... 64m is Shouting distance... not Sniping distance.

I propose a new motto, not to replace the official Riflemen motto, but for all those who, should the Devs make us snipers, want them to do it right.

"If you don't need a scope, it ain't sniping."

.....or something better...
