you see a wookiee crest the hill in front of you. he's wearing recon armor and holding a bowcaster. you're on the slope opposite using /cover, so you haven't been spotted yet.

what happens next?

you probably break cover from laughing too hard.

why? because you know a bowcaster is about as fearsome as a CDEF.

now, let's assume that you stifle your laughter, and he's just the forward lookout. the rest of his crew is right on his heels... armed with CDEF carbines, CDEF rifles, and E11's.

exactly what kind of skillset are you looking at?

hard to say. the CDEF carbine skin might be a CDEF... or a DH17. the CDEF rifle? might be a DLT20/DLT20a. the E11? might be an E11 rifle, might be a DH17 snubnose, might be an E11 carbine.

unless you're looking at their armor (or badges, or 'title'), you're not likely to know what their combat professions are. if they're WEARING armor, you might wonder why they're using basic marksman weapons, which all have ridiculously low stats.

of course, they'll all be showing /con dots next to their names... and they might easily be pistoleers or bounty hunters (or even creature handlers, smugglers, combat medics, etc). you won't know, because they can use their pistol or BH or carbine or rifle specials (with a few exceptions) with any ranged weapon.

so why are you looking at their weapons? because apparently your wielded weapon is meant to show other players what kind of combat threat you pose.

here's the problem (well... one of them).

bowcasters can be used by any wookiee... with or without novice marksman. because of this, the bowcaster has stats that rival CDEF's. as long as this is the case, every wookiee with a decent 'caster is going to find that their weapon is converted to CDEF-range stats.

not a wookiee? if you have a decent E11 (any type), DH17 (any type), DLT20 (any type), you're looking at the same problem: low cert weapons have very limited stat values.

because your weapon is a flag to wave to others to signal your abilities, this is the system that we're looking at.

if the E11 skin can be used for three distinct weapons (E11 rifle, E11 carbine, DH17 snubnose)...
if the CDEF carbine skin can be used for two distinct weapons (CDEF carbine, DH17 carbine)...
if the CDEF rifle skin can be used for three distinct weapons (CDEF rifle, DLT20, DLT20a)...

and if the CDEF's, which are cert'd for all players (just as the 'caster is cert'd for all wooks), can actually 'hold' the stats of a marksman tier 3 weapon (DLT20a, for example), then why can't an advanced bowcaster, with at LEAST mediocre stats, share the skin of the existing 'caster, and allow for a cert'd option?

while we're on the subject, let it be noted that the E11, arguable the most iconic of weapons (the DL44 (and mmarks DL44 metal) has a strong case here, but is outside the range of this discussion... and lightsabers are in a realm all their own) in SWG, then why is the E11 (skin and weapons) relegated to a position of mediocrity?

In Episode V The Empire Strikes Back Chewbacca uses an E11 while fighting out of Cloud City. (The Scene with CP30 on his back). Now, because Chewbacca (a wookiee) uses this E11 it means it must immediately be assigned to an existance of worthlessness along with the Bowcaster, another weapon used by Chewbacca.

Notice a theme? It is my belief that SOE is run by Trandoshan slavers.

was it an E11? rifle or carbine? or a DH17 snub?

also... is that why droids are so... less than ideal? because chewie wielded one?

My assumption is that it was a rifle due to Chewbacca being something of a Rifleman/Smuggler. Also, Chewbacca was the most accurate with a blaster along with Han. (Leia was the worst).

As for droids... I hadn't even considered it! I think you've just uncovered more of the conspiracy against Wookiees!

well hopefully my argueing and the previous argueing of waste and all the community support has finally paid off...

the "assault bowcaster" is on the way. ^_^ (as to what it is and where it is cert'd Oo)

three bowcasters, two with rifle certs (one marksman rifle 4, one master rifle).

the new E11 (mk. II) is a carbine.

Not to sound like too big of a geek here, but when was the last time you saw the movies? Leia is like...a Master Pistoleer practically. I even remember seeing a post about this where someone actually took the time to count her "kills" over the course of the movies. Maybe Han and Chewie killed more Stromies, but Leia rarely ever misses. I just watched the DVDs not that long ago, so it's pretty fresh in my mind...I wouldn't mess with her...even if she had a CDEF (Which she does).
