Learn your specials.

Make sure you are buffed and have a PSG equipped.

Use the weapon that has the highest modified DPS.

Use your snare or root attacks to keep the enemy at distance. Use KD attacks to get them on their back. When on their back the damage they take is greater. When on their back use your highest damage attacks to cause the most overall damage. Mix in some other states so they do less damage to you.

Practice.

The following are some specific and also some general tips to PVPing. Examples included!

Get in a group with 3 or 4 others. I just spent probably from 9pm to 4am fighting on TC-EP3. Good group tactics and when to pull back meant there was only one time that we actually got wiped.. and thats when we ported into Bestine and couldnt retreat out of the Starport against 3 to 1 odds.. (it basically was a stream of enemies coming in which is why we managed to survive to kill off a lot of them had they all attacked at once we wouldnt have killed anyone). The times I died were pretty much all turrets around the AH/Bestine area cept for once or twice I got too close without backup. Died a couple more times from CTDs and zoning back in dead. A good working group and knowing when to attack I think are probably the two most important things you need to keep a grasp on. Example:

A force of about 15 imperials were coming up the hill right next to AH to attack the city. After half of them passed by my group of 4 we attacked. The first 5 or 6 had to deal with the rebels coming in from anchorhead. There back up (which we hit) we stuck a couple roots and snares out on 2 or 3 targets total. The of the forces instead of going up to help there friends decided to attack us. We hit two of the guys that we had rooted or snared and concentrated our firepower on them. *THIS WAS ESSENTIAL TO DO* With 2 folks out of commision we had evened the odds and hadnt taken much damage yet. As we enegaged the remainder the larger force of rebels overwhelmed the forward attackers they met and together we mopped up the remaining imps.

Template for all of this was: Master Rifle Master Pistoleer BH 4400.

For me personally I opened up with a root attack, followed by either an intimdate shot or a critical shot. It pretty much depended on the odd we were fighting, if we were outnumbered the intimdate was used. Followed up by some critical shots and headshots while the rest of the group focused on the same target dropped enemies quickly enough that we can cut out an enemies ability to damage us. Several times later in the night the Imperials would get together 3 or 4 of them at an Imperial base. I went in and when things were "busy" I went prone and covered myself. The Imperials would try to draw my comrades into the range of bugged base turrets (which really need to be fixed). In doing so they would get within about 45 meters of me and I'd take there bike out from underneath them, smack a root or snare on them. When they saw this my groupmates would rush into range with their smaller range weapons and open up. DBs were given if the target wasnt in range of turrets otherwise three time incap rules applied.

In closing, yes knowing how to play your class is important but it means diddly if your groupmates arent playing as a team. Get yourself in a group or start one and insist folk stick together. If you're more then 45 meters from your friends more often then not something is definitely wrong. Teamspeak makes PVP a thousand times more easier since you can call out the name of a target. However sometimes thats just not feasable. However: SOE has made it so non-effecting type attacks that are pure damage can be fired by selecting a group member and using specials. Youll be able to assist through them and if you have a designated targeter and everyone assists through them it makes life a lot easier. Youll also notice that a grey little box appears around the person being targetted by the person you're assisting. You can just click in that box to target the person everyone else should be firing on so that you can uses a more variety of attacks. Hopefully its a bug where attacks that have effects with them arent working correctly through the assist system and if/when they fix it you'll be able to not worry about targetting... you just leave that to the designated person.

Nisdain those are excellent comments.

I do believe I saw you in the various battles around Anchorhead, I would have been on the Imperial side. It was really exciting, with the various waves advancing toward the city, pushing back the Rebel force into the city, then being pushed out again as the Rebels regrouped and chased us back up the hill toward Tosche station, or down the hill toward some of the bases.

In the CU, knowing your role in combat is essential and having a reliable group to PVP with can make or break the experience.

The Rifleman/Carbineer/Pistoleer template described above is ideal for Crowd Control and Rooting/Snaring enemies for your teammates to fight, as well as using Fan Shot or Full Auto Area on a group of enemies. I'd have to check the skill boxes again, but you may want to look at taking Pistoleer xx44 instead of 4004, because Intimidate Shot can be pretty useful. I forget what is in Pistoleer 4xxx so that may be working better for you.
