Thread: Rifle Damage Adjustment on TC

I was doing 2695pnts with advanced sniper shot and a LD-1 rifle as a Master rifleman on TC. Today 1.9k. Can't break that level and even tried it on worts and rats. By contrast my Master squad leader with their best cabine can land 1.4k regularly with legshot2 from Carbineer. My MBH/Carb did 1.3k regularly with a proton carb and 1.5k on static things like lairs.

Both the LD-1 and the explosive tip sniper rifle, say they do 274-597. I believe. I can log back in and check.

Edit: those numbers are correct. When I logged in today I was weaponless. Going back to the frog and getting what I had yesterday resulted in this. Yesterday I also got off a 5636 pnt last ditch when I was very low life. Ah well no more. I was trying Master smuggler, Master rifleman, with the rest in medic/novice CM for heals.

That's a fecking 700pnt adjustment. As I said, meh and bleh.

Not to be argumentative, but how can it be a "nerf" when the stuff was never live in the first place and still isn't. I agree that we should have some strong DPS and front-loaded damage capabilities to fulfill our role as nuker, but wouldn't it be better to /bug it, or post on the patch discussion thread that you are concerned about our comparitive damage rate, etc.?

Leche - you are correct it really is not a nerf as it is not a live issue. This is a balancing issue and all multipliers etc are being changed on a daily basis. As for front loading. Boy do we need a damage boost

Ideas: (silly one here) what about a shot that can be used only as the first shot in a combat that has like a 10x damage multiplier? (poof- he's down and incapped but not dead)

Sorry about that, in a technical/literal sense you are correct.

I was happy to find a combo yesterday, besides MBH/MC/Pistoleer XX44 that could solo down L81 mobs or L79 Gurks. My MS/MR was able to barely do it yesterday. So I was a tad disappointed today to see the damage adjustment. It is hard to dent high level mobs life due to soak and or regen. Some of them are plain sick.

We are talking about a double master/elite character here with a rating of L80 in all cases.

Anywho, again, sorry about that. Won't happen again.

I didn't mean to come off sounding like I'm lecturing. I agree that we've got some concerns with regard to our abilities to fill our combat role. But, the damage reduction pass that they just did could possibly be a good thing in getting us closer to that... Before, if they increased our DPS or front-loaded damage by a degree large enough to allow us to really stand out in the "nuker" role, we'd be in danger of being towards the overpowered end, maybe even towards the 1-hit kill that they have specifically said will be gone from PvP.

Now, if we post in the daily bug threads, submit /bug reports, and give Acke a hearty /slap-on-the-back from time to time, we might be able to be adjusted up so that we are able to fill our niche while not being overpowered. *crosses fingers and does the dev attention dance*

--edit--
As for a large damage opening shot, I guess I sorta thought of sniper shot that way. Right now, it seems like the warmup and cooldown of it is enough to make it have a lower DPS than a headshot combo alternating with another no-warmup special (bodyshot, critical shot, another rifle special, etc.). If the devs went that way, snipershot could have an even longer warmup in exchange for a higher damage multiplier. Could make it interesting to use as an opening or closing shot. Of course, it'd be kinda neat if sniper shot was a regular part of our repetoire rather than a "use once or twice per battle" kind of thing.

Well, while they were busy changing the dam multiplier (*raises hand* I know - how about eliminate it entirely! pleaseandthankyou), they respec'd all the weapons... but a) fixed none of the elemental damages (still only spraystick, no berseker, Tnloss or anything), the weapon progression is still a dog's breakfast (Massassi remains a gateway weapon at lvl 30, still no kinetic Master weapon, among other things), and they've now completely screwed up the skill prereqs. Seems like half of the weapons (including the aforementioned Spraystick) say they need Master Rifleman, but still have the same lvl requirement. Tusken Rifle now apparently needs Master Commando... and the species text for bowcasters is bugged so that it reads the name of the text field rather than Species" Wookiee".

These are probably just bugs in the sorting of their equipment table, but I can't find a suitable category in which to report them. Any thoughts, Acke?

One might have hoped, since they were loading a whole new weapon set, they might actually have included some of these fixes, instead of actually making the whole thing worse. /sigh

(Oh, and nice try Acke, but you know full well they'll never give us a one-shot-inc ability, nor should they. The Snipershot is the closest we'll get, but it should be amped up to put out noticeablky more than the top specials of other professions (rather than the same/slightly less than, say, criticalstrike), and should certainly be possible to fire without breaking cover, given its long windup and our "nuker" designation.

Well this CU is getting worse and worse with ever publish. Today weapon damage was lowered, weapon speed was increased (2.5-2.7), Action Costs were jacked up way high, and creatures are even more out of wack than before.

Dont try and fight a Blue or White con mob, its suicide.

Actually dont trust creature cons at all, I was out playing with the newly nerfed weapons, had the Advanced Laser Rifle equiped, saw a group of Kaadu's lvl's 11-14. I was like cool should be able to one shot these? (Master Rifleman, Master Combat Medic, BH 03/1/0) Well these lvl 11-14mobs take 600pnt Headshots like they are nothing, charge right at me, 3 of them and I am incapped within seconds. I tried again, pulled one away from the others, was a lvl 14 one, he ran right up on me, so I used the CM snare, then hit him with the Rifleman snare (Dont think they stack but will have to test it again sometime but it didnt look like it), and started using styles on it, well I ran out of action before the thing was at half life. My normal ranged shots were using action and were only doing 265dmg to this lvl 14 creature.

Good Game!

Dont know how all you Fanbio's can keep defending this crap.

Everything above was bugged, not that its going to matter.

I would post them in the bug thread and in the weapon conversion thread (I think the weapon conversion person is basically responsible for where cert's go) I have been posting in the conversion thread and in the CorForum but more people reporting = great chance they might do something.

bugger... looks like being able to use the proton rifle is just a side effect of the normal 'SOE patch cockup' proceedure.

shame as it gives snipershot a bit of a damage boost.

Thanks, Acke. I took the opportunity to respond in the post-gamesurvey as well. among other things, I mentioned that perhaps the survey questions should change to reflect current issues rather than questions we've answered 20 times... and then took the comment window for the icons to fill them in on these other issues. I'll add a post on the bug thread and conversion threads as well.

Cona - I am not a fanboi (or even a fangirl, although that would be more correct technically speaking), but I hold out a slender thread of hope that although we are not seeing the necessary changes reflected on the TC, it remains possible that they are being built into the code expected to push to live. They tweak in TC to test different parameters, rather than to refine the code to the point where it appears exactly as it wil in live (yet another reason why it's a joke to call this beta testing), so while I must admit my hopes dim with each passing day, they aren't gone yet.

Adjustments went across the boards. I know sabers went from 1500max-ish to 800.

Seems combat prof maxes are a little too low right now for PvP, but not by much.
