There was a recent post on this forum regarding soloing Krayts and I was planning on posting this there, but decided to start a separate post so that readers wouldn’t have to go all the way through that post to find this if interested.

First, I love soloing Krayts. This is what I did all the time prior to Publish 24 and I have been working on finding a Template that will allow me to do after. So far I think I have found it and have been able to solo several. Soloed 2 yesterday. I have to admit that they were only juniors but that was all I had time to practice on. They went down real easy to, so I know the Canyons are still doable. I have not taken on a Grand yet so they may be out of my league, but I feel pretty confident based on what I have seen.I have seen a guy do this with the Canyon and Grand the day after Publish 24 several times so I know it can be done. Based on the skills he used I was able to determine he was at least a MSL/MBH. I have taken down a CL85 BattleDroid on a Corvette with this template and so I think it can be applied to the Canyon Krayts, seeming they got the same boost with the publish.

MY TEMPLATE

First, it is all a matter of Templete (non-jedi) to do it. Unless you use a similar template I don’t know if you can do it. I assume Jedis can still solo Krayts, but did watch one kill a Master Defender.

I am a MSL/MR/Pistoleer0003/Medic0010 and have 1 point of FS Rifle Speed. I honestly thing the MSL is the turning point in the template and the only reason I can solo them currently and watched the other guy do it. I group with my Medical droid and this allows me to get the benefit of the SL group skills. I used the following SL Group buffs, Volley fire, Blaze of Glory, Form Up at the appropriate time.I apply the following SL buffs to the Krayt - Paint Target which increases damage to target, and Call Shot which gives a big boost of 110% to the very next shot. I was hitting the CL82 for 1900 with my Trando Rifle Max Damage 1183 and it is not pupped.

These combinations allows me to do more damage than they regenerate even at the current regen rates and I can get an edge on them. It will take longer on a cl87 but it can still be done. Watch a guy do it to 2 the day after Pub 24.

The most important SL Buffs I use are Volley Fire and Blaze of Glory. Both increase the damage that the target takes.

The next most important SL skill that I use is the Form Up special. This is a great skill because it basically allows me to burst run for up to 30 minutes. I tested this by applying form up and then burst running and there was no change in speed. When ever a Krayt gets near me I simply hit the Form Up special and get out of range. If I am doing enough damage without using the damage specials then I just leave Form Up on and this just makes it much easier to stay out of range the entire time.

Now the rest of my skills come into play. I have Pistoleer 0003 which gives me a great root ability and the Master Rifleman for the Snare Ability. All though the publish 24 is supposed to have made them more resistant to root and snares, I think the SL buffs compensate and bring the resistance down, another plus for Paint Target. I managed to stick every Root and Snare yesterday. I alternate between the root and the snare to help keep me out of its range.

My Medical skills are limited so if I start taking hits I can be in trouble fast if I don’t get clear. I have a BE shirt with +18 efficiency, and a CA on gloves with +10 healing efficiency. Combined with my foods I can still heal for 800+ and if near my Medical droid I can heal for 1100. I seem to be ok with only this against the Krayts becauseI can stay out of range most of the time.

Foods are used to boost my action, health, and mind regen.I never use spice because the downer can cause me to stop in one place for a minute and that may be the end of me. If anyone want to know the foods, I will make a list and edit them in.

My armor is typically Recon with 7k energy, but I do where my assault from time to time. It really just depends on what I am wearing at the time I start hunting. As long as I have armor on, I don’t care about the type.

MY METHOD

This is basically the method I use every time. It seems to work pretty well for me.I first apply the Volley Fire or Blaze of Glory (I just pick one) and eat my foods.I then apply the Paint Target and then hit the Krayt with a root.I now hit Call Shot and then immediately hit Headshot for a high damage hit.Hit the CL82 for around 1900.I will update this for the damage done to the CL85s and CL87s later if I remember. My ranged shot is set to auto so I never stop shooting. I next alternate the Called Shot and Headshot to do max damage. When my action gets low, I stop and just hit him with Ranged shot to give it time to regenerate and start the process over. This puts a lot of damage on its health fast so that when I have to go to just Ranged and it regenerates past my damage, I have made some headway. If it is regenerating like mad, then I may alternate headshot in there every now and then to try to combat it while my action regenerates.I can also use the SL buff Moral Booster if my action is not regenerating fast enough, but I normally leave it on Volley or Blaze for the damage increase.

Once the root wears off or starts to flash, I hit him with a snare to keep him from running up on me.I have noticed that the root will not reapply immediately, so I wait until the snare starts to flash and reapply the root.If the root does not stick, then I just hit Paint Target and try to reapply or Snare again.I have had pretty good luck sticking it once the target is painted.

Obviously I am not standing in one area the entire time I am doing this.KITE like mad or you are done.I stay right at the 65m range at all times and run in a circle around the Krayt. If he starts to get close to me then I hit Form Up and start running to get back to the 65m range and immediately try to reapply root or snareIf the Root or snare does not stick I stay on Form up until I can get it to Stick then go back to Blaze or Volley for a damage increase. If I appear to be doing enough damage without the Blaze or Volley and then I will leave Form Up on and insure that I stay out of range.

If there is a Junior and a Canyon grouped, then I try to pull the Junior just by using Headshot and Ranged shot. The Called Shot seems to Aggro the Canyon and then I am kiting both.I have managed to live through this as long as they don’t get to me. If they do catch up to me and I can’t get away for some reasons, then I heal like mad and unequip my weapon and start running straight out until they retreat.

CONCLUSION

I think the turning point to this Template is the MSL skills I have. This gives me a vast amount of enhanced skills that allows me to do a lot more damage than normal player.Although I don’t think this is the equivalent of 2 players, but it appears to be enough of a boost to give me the edge I need to take them on and combat their new Regen rate and resistance to specials like root and snare, which is the primary problem with the Publish 24 changes.

Hope this helps anyone that is interested in being able to Solo Krayt Dragons again post publish 24.I am sure in the future there will be a change to either the MOBs or the SL profession that will prevent this from working, but right now it does and if you like Soloing Krayts then this is a good option.

EDIT and UPDATE

Ok, went back and got some numbers and a have a little bit to add. With Called shot and Headshot I hit the CL85 Canyon for 1600 points and in the 750 to 800 range just using head shot while running the Blaze or Volley. I was easily able to stay ahead of the regeneration rate while using specials and the above SL buff discussed. Took about 5 to 7 mins to take one down. The CL82 went down real fast and easy and the numbers match the same above in the original post. CL87 Grand or Gaint (cant remember exact name, never focus on more than CL level) I hit for around 1250 to 1300 with the Call Shot option and was able to get him down to 7000 health before my action foods ran out so I ended up having to run away from that one. It was completely immune to Root and Snare as it stated over its head. I lost some power because I had to use the Form Up buff most of the time and my action was not regenerating fast enough once I ran out of food. My suggestion on these is to get the burst run food and use that instead of the Form Up so that you can do more damage. With just ranged shot I went from 312 to 370 per shot with Blaze or Volley and the extra points help. They Regenerate like mad and it is hard to stay ahead. Also, if you are going to hunt any, then get Doc Buffs just for the extra help and make sure you are stocked in foods, I would have taken him if I had enough food on me at the time, because I wouldnt have lost ground so fast from the lack of action. Later I went back and was able to take down 2 CL87 Krayts in a row. With the use of the Burst Run Food I was easily able to stay out of its range and still run Volley or Blaze. It did take me about 25 to 30 minutes to take one down, so it was one heck of a fight.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the guide. I have a bad feeling about this, tho. I would not be suprised if a SL nerf comes down the pipe soon that only counts Players as group members for the SL skills to be used, and the other Player has to be within a certain distance.

That being said, even having a 2-member party with a MSL in the mix could bring down Krayts with a quickness.
