Thread: What am I doing wrong here? Need some guidance.

I bought the game when it first came out and left shortly thereafter. I decided to come back and am trying Rifleman, then Scout and maybe some medic but right now I'm working on Rifleman. I'm a "Novice Rifleman" now and to be honest I'm getting my butt kicked, even after buying a Sprayer. I'm doing 250+ damage and I'm at Combat level 14. I read a couple threads about certain skills that stun the mob, or make them move away and various tactics (threatening shot rings a bell). Well I don't see any such skill so it's basically a blast fest where I try to kill it before it kills me. I toss a poison trap into the mix but frankly in the time it takes me to toss the trap, I've taken more damage than if I had just gone ahead and kept blasting away. Anyway, I'm doing missions and the lowest level ones that get listed are level 12. I usually die at least once, sometimes more while trying to complete these missions. I can't imagine trying to do these missions with my basic CDEF rifle, which up until recently is all I had. I still wear the normal clothes from the start also. I'm broke, so I don't see how anyone can afford any upgrades. Anyway, can anyone set me straight here with a plan? What am I doing wrong? I've tried the "Aim' then a skill, I've tried the various skills I have and they're all very close in damage. Help appreciated, thanks.

I fear to inform you that this actually game changes drastically in a few more days - even more then you are experiencing right now

those skills you read about are precurb 1 (about 6 months or so ago they were removed) basically you are involved in a blast fest with the skills from marksmen until you level up more.

You should pick up medic pretty much immediately (you need no items to heal) as it will increase your ability to live longer while you grind (and allow you to make money). I suggest also that you find some player with a helper tag and ask that they help you with a few missions. The various skills were seriously down graded with the infamous curb.
You will be seeing an entire new combat system in the next few days that throws everything we ever have said out into the cold. If you want I suggest you try to download test center and try out the new system (as that is basically what you wil be leveling under soon.
Rifleman also ceases to exist as a profession as of the 15th so well i would love to welcome you to the fold but I also have to say "have fun in your future endeavours" and "farewell"
