Thread: Spliting up the Rifleman Tree (long)

Hi all, just wanted to ask around about the possiblity of splitting the riflemen tree into two different professions.

First of, the way I see it, the rifleman has problems because he tries to do multiple things, a sniper and a machine gunner. However, the way the rifleman sets up, he is not able to do either very well. Hencing making him underpowered if in theory he has good abilities. My solution (which is not easy) would be to make a dedicated sniper profession and a gunner profession.

Sniper Profession:

  1. Accuracy and Speed (Allows the sniper to shoot a bit faster and more accurately)

  2. Concealment (similar to what the rifleman currently has but with more bonuses to hiding)

  3. Shot Placement (ability to target any ham bar)

  4. Tactics (ability to use terrain and positioning to your advantage. Ideally being able to climb onto rooftops and snipe from there. Realistically, getting higher bonuses to take cover until the shot is taken after which point the defense is gone.)

Now to balance this all out, I would then allow mind healing. The whole fact that rifleman can attack any pool cancels out the fact that mind can be healed like any other stat. Also key is that this sniper is slow, sort of like the 16 second delay commandos have.

Gunner (Infantry) Profession:

  1. Accuracy (allows thegunner to getaccuracy)

  2. Counter Sniping (similar to what is already in place)

  3. Rifle Specials (similar to what is already in place)

  4. Fortification (digging into a position and laying down covering fire from there. Like behind a sandbag emplacement)

The gunner would not have any specific ham targetting. Instead he would fire quickly and with the intention of keeping attacking forces at bay. I envision him having useof repeating blasters and maybe some fire support weapons like mortars. Again the 2.5x melee would exist cause youvery well can not hit a guywith a weapon emplacement. Also accuracywill be reduced compared to a sniper and movementimpossible for a gunner when his weapon is out. Also I envision a delay time in setting up andmoving heavy weapons.

Honestly, the infantry role I think belongs to the carbineer. Spliting the riflemen would allow for two seperate classeswhich I think will be more effective and fullfilling.

So what do you all think?

Agreed, pretty weak. I gave you five stars just to spite whoever gave you one star.

Regarding your idea: I don't think it's a bad idea, I just think we have enough problems as it is right now.

True, but I was suggesting this as a fix because I pretty much thought the problem was in that the rifleman is being stretched into different directions.

Unless I am wrong andif the skills worked as they shouldthe class would be fine.
