Thread: A new rifleman special attack
I was thinking about Cover, and how it actually helps people miss you, but is worthless because they just charge your position and force you to stand up anyway.
We need a new special attack.... call it.... "Grazing Shot" (all the more appropriate names are taken)
It can only be done from Cover. Once applied, that target cannot approach the rifleman's position until the effect wears off. He can stand still, he can go prone and shoot, he can run away, he can run around, but he can't run TOWARDS the rifeman. It would be like an invisible wall around the rifleman.
The explanation being that the character is now too afraid of the sniper to want to come closer, and can't be forced to do so (as in all roleplaying games, sometimes you don't have complete control of your own character, e.g. "fear" type effects).
Thus you go prone, cover, hope cover works, grazing shot your target and it cannot approach. Handy for PvE and PvP. Neglible damage on the shot itself, the effect lasts 20 seconds and cannot be reapplied to a single target for 30 seconds. If the rifleman's position changes, the effect cancels.
This seems doable because it's mostly clientside, assuming they can cough up a good "invisible circular wall" function.
good idea though

This attack solves all of our problems but it would be rejected by the devs
Yeah, we really need something to replace suppression fire if we're going to be viable as a "long range only" attack class.
They'll have to figure out how to keep it balanced (maybe each damaging shot has a chance of breaking the effect, so 1 rifleman + 10 pistoleers can't solo a Krayt without worry) but it should be doable.
You could do something like this and make it viable. Have it act like suppression fire, but always posture down to prone. Have it last 10 seconds and have 40 second immunity.
Think of the cool benefits (and problems)!
PvE:
Melee classes would love to group with you since you would give them time to approach the enemy & they do bonus damage to prone targets.
You could get a reasonable amount of shots in while the target is down for 10 seconds. Say MS2, MS1, Grazing Fire, HS2 2 or 3 times... They would be in pretty rough shape at the end (Thus the 40 second reapplication delay), Butthis may still be a factor that works against us since it would help our solo ability. Oh well, its fun to dream..
PvP:
While it would immobilize the opponent, they are harder to hit while prone and are attacking you more accurately (if using ranged) So that part would kind of balance out. But if you have any Melee skills, you would get up on them and smackem around... Hard..
Like I said, could be kinda cool to have a better suppresion fire style attack. But I think that kind of deal falls under the Carbineer profession. After all, they are (were) masters of the crowd control & state effect attacks. They already have a Suppression Fire 2.
