Thread: Suprise shot. Worthless?
Suprise shot. 3.0X damage must be used from cover. Is there an effective use for this skill? Other attacks do more damage and conceal shot is reusable, whereas suprise shot works only once (actually not at all). I used this skill under cover and after my 1st successful hit I was immediately incapped by a lantern bird.
Anyone know what use this skill is for?
It doesn't have to be used from cover. (Last time I checked anyway.)
My main use for it is when I need a single target shot with ok damage.
If it did need to be used from cover then it would be worthless IMO.
Conceal Shot ....... Damage x2.5 .. Time x3.0 .. Mind x5
Surprise Shot....... Damage x3.0 .. Time x3.0 .. Mind x5
However I don't think it should be an upgraded version of conceal shot, I feel that the upgrade it would represent with the current increase of .5 to the damage multiplier would be almost worthless, however greater than x3 on a shot like conceal shot would be overpowered.
Instead I would like to see some other use for it.
I believe it's suppose to be an upgraded Conceal Shot. Damage on it is supposedly 4X while Conceal is 3X. Problem is that it's broken. You get detected normally as opposed to being like Conceal. So right now it's fairly useless.
there's nothing in the game descriptions of the shot to support this. it's a useful shot in group situations that don't call for an AE shot where you also want to assist the group in hitting random pools. (as opposed to mind). the only broken part about the shot is it not requiring cover.
it should be our most powerful single shot, hence the cover requirement, but an upgraded form of concealshot i don't think we will ever see. concealshot as is works perfectly (nothing says it should require cover) and an upgrade would be pretty unbalancing imo. i'd like to see surprise do 5x damage... i wouldn't mind it requiring cover if it did.

I'm not sure, I was going to say a single shot x5 that can be used at any time, since strafe2 is AE. However I think startle shot would be perfect for this, as flushing shot does everything startle shot and more, at a lower box. Startleshot 1 could be a single target 3.5x or 4x with startleshot 2 being 4x - 5x single target, however this leaves me out of ideas for surprise shot.
One thing I seem to remember posting a couple of months back, and I've seen posted by a couple of people is that surprise shot could be used to extend our range. Say with surprise shot you could hit targets up to 80m away, but you have to be in cover to use it, give it a 4x or 5x multiplier and you have about as "sniperish" skill as you're likely to see in SWG. This way you're not going to be kiting everyone, there should be limited engine problems since you will be still when using it, and it gives the people that want to play a sniper role a skill to use.
I really don't see many balance problems with it, which Ido with allowing us to use bleeds or AEs at anything over 64m, especially if you can move while shooting.
Surprise shot, when used from cover does not aggro the target ON THE FIRST SHOT (sometimes the second). It will on any additional shot. Otherwise, it is just a higher damage anytime shot.
I would like to see startle shot change to posture down and surprise shot become the single target heavy hitter. An additional option is for startle to give a 5 second delay to the target.

I wish I had taken a screenshot. 1st shot was a hit (while under cover). Aggro and incap was next to immediate (I only got off one shot, no misses and I was incapped).
Are you thinking of Conceal Shot?
