Your Ranged Defense and Melee Defense are the things that I am sure will carry over between professions.
Things like... block or that... umm... was it... Defense Acuity? or something like that... I have no Idea.

your melee, ranged, equiliriium, acquity, and def vs. x, all combine together to make up your total def ratings, and are capped at +125. skills like counter attack, dodge, and block are also capped at +125, I've heard they are supposed to be weapon specific, whether it actually is, i'm not sure.

I know for sure Ranged / Melee / Status Defenses will stack to a max of +125 as said.. As far as your Combat Eq and Defense Acuity go I really cant answer for sure but I'd suggest they would be tied into Unarmed only, AKA when you are using Vibros or no Rifle.

well, dodge counterattack and block require yopu to use the weapon that uses that mod, lets say you go for ike pikeman and rifleman youlll have alot of block im not sure how much but lets just say like 200, well if you got 100 from rifleman and 100 from pikeman then youll only be able to use the +100 block if you use the rifle or the pike and that goes for dodge and stuff
now the def vs kd and stuff like that does carry over to other professions so if you get like +125 def vs kd then youll get the full efffect no matter what weapon you use
now aobut the def acuity i would say that it does carry over into other professions because it says that itll increase your chances of reacting to a attack with block counterattack or dodge but tka doesnt even give those and if it does give you some its very little so im pretty sure itll carry over into any prof as long as you have it'
sry for the bad punctuation but im still sort of asleep =/

Block, Counterattack, and Dodge are definitely weapon specific. However, they are not profession specific. Therefore, if I am a Rifleman/Pikeman, Block will stack, and I will benefit from that stacking whether I am holding a rifle or a polearm. However, if switch to a Carbine or a Powerhammer, I no longer benefit from block because those weapons use Counterattack.. But, for a Carbineer/Swordsman, the stacked Counterattack would work for either Carbine or Powerhammer. Same for Dodge with Pistoleer/Fencers. When using their weapons, Dodge will stack and work.
However, there is a cap at 125. So:
Block:Rifleman +80 and Pikeman +115 = +195 (capped at +125)
Counterattack: Carbineer +105 and Swordsman + 110 = +215 (capped at +125)
Dodge:Pistoleer +105 and Fencer +105 = +210 (capped at +125)
Ranged defenses and melee defenses are also capped at +125, but they are neither weapon specific nor profession specific. They stack and work no matter what weapon you are holding. For instance, as a Master Rifleman/Master Swordsman/Master Brawler, I have +67 to melee defense and +92 to ranged defense. Those work when I am using any weapon.
However, for Rifleman, there is a To-Hit modifier that is applied to us when we are holding a rifle. This modifer replaced the 2.5x melee damage modifier we used to have. Thus, rather than taking 2.5x the damage per hit, we get hit more often. The To-Hit modifier from melee negates most, if not all,of the +40 melee defense we get from Rifleman at Master (actuall, by x x x 4) while I am holding a rifle. I do not know what the actual calculations are, but when using melee weapons, I get my full +67 to melee defense, but if I switch to Rifles, I get significantly less. From some reports, it appears that even the + to meleefrom otherprofessions does not evenmitigate much of theTo-Hit modifier while holding a rifle. This may also apply to other ranged weapons, just less so than for rifles.
Defense vs. xxxx modifiers stack, are not capped, andwork no matter what weapon you are holding. However, I believe there is something like a 10% chance that any state change will stick no matter what your defense vs. that state is, a kind of reverse cap. Someone else will have to confirm or deny this.
Right now, Block is broken for Riflemen (I do not know about Pikeman). It does not work all that often, and when it does, it reports as Counterattack on your Combat window.
Finally, be aware that the cap is a skill relate cap. That is, I cannot exceed the +125 from my character build, but a few other factors can boost your defenses above the cap. For instance, if I am with a Squad Leader, they have skills that can temporariliy boost defenses. This boost can push you over the cap.
