Thread: Will rifleman suit my purposes?

My current template is master swordsman/tkm/brawler/medic 0040/novice scout. I recently picked up tkm for the defenses and meditate. I am a loot whore. I love to solo and don't mind taking the damage while tanking cause I use stim Ds. I am looking for a ranged component in my template to go with swordsman. Rifleman seemed obvious.

I don't require a ranged profession for what I do but it might be nice. From everyone's experience is this a better soloing profession then tka? I don't use tka for fighting cause I love swordsman. I have been one for like 7 months now.

A popular template I have seen is master rifleman/swordsman/tka 4004 or MS/MS/Master brawler/tka003, these don't work because they don't have medic or room for scout. I want to keep brawler and swordsman for sure. So does rifleman suit my purposes better then tka?

Rifleman will give you access to the following damage types:

energy
acid
stun
cold
heat (once they fix the beserker rifle)

That alone would help you in your quest to Solo anything that moves. By coupling Swords with Rifles, you'll be the unstopable terror of PvE, combining the hardest hitting Melee profession with the hardest hitting ranged profession. The only downside would be that you would have very poor defenses. TKA has much better defenses than rifleman.

Keep in mind that Rifleman tends to be a no-dabble profession. In order to embrace the best parts of the profession, you need the Master rank. If you're willing to sacrifice other stuff to pick this up, then you should be a hurricane in PvE. Strafe Shot2 will absolutely destroy Mokks (my preferred quarry). Send in a droid or something to tank the lair, watch the Mokks swarm in, then Strafe 'em a few timesfrom 60 meters...no more Mokks. I assume this technique can be used on most of the other mobs in the game, but I tend to stick to Dantooine for most of my hunting, so I know that this tactic definitely works there.

As for your original question about Rifleman replacing the need for TKA, I can't say I can definitely answer that. I refuse to use TK for anythingbesides Meditate and defenses because I feel it is a grossly overpowered profession. SWG, in my opinion, is supposed to be a sci-fi game (i.e. guns, lots of guns) so I have strong feelings about the scales being tipped in favor of melee'. That said, I know TK can be very powerful in PvE because I have used it before. Whether or not it is "better" than Rifleman I do not know. As per my above post though, I know that a Master Rifleman can decimate fairly high-level mobs in a short amount of time through the use of Strafe Shot2. I've used Strafe Shot2 onthe lower echelon Nightsisters and slaughtered small packs of them (the elders of course...they're another story ),You will also have access to5 damage types, which is something that the melee' profs don't have. I of course would love to see another Rifleman running around, but if someone can tell you that TKA is the better prof to go with for PvE, then by all means stick with what works for you.

TreindTyde you seem focus on PvE a lot like myself, and the template you are looking for might just be what I am using. Note: I don't have master brawler. To me the amount of SP spend to get intimate 2 is not worth it to me.

Master Rifleman\Master Swordsman\Medic 2|0|4|0\Fencer 3|0|0|0, Going fencer defence path gave me more def than I would from TK is the reason I choose that, and the medic part I am just like you. I love mystim E 1100 heal; on avg I heal for around 1900 and able to heal woundto me there's no skills or stacking in the world that can beat that, especiallywhen it only cost 34 SP.

Template 2: (old template) Master Rifleman\Master Swordsman\Medic 2|0|4|0\Scout 1|0|4|0,No extra defence with this, but same healing power and scout to help get around in Dath as well as harvest for extra cash (seasonal base, it was a very good month on my server when I had it)
