CU is at the door, I know we'll be able to re-spec several times in 2 weeks time, but I'm curious what templates is those who chose to stay with rifles are going to take. I have to be honest and speak freelyhere, I think rifleman took quite a hit in terms of effectiveness with the CU, while we have some unique abilities, at the moment I can't see any use for them except for RP or something. Anyway, I'm a stubborn guy and before I hang my rifles on the wall I'll make sure to test their effectiveness extensively (I've been waiting for the live-test [sic], since on TC it was close to impossible to test PvP).
My first target template:
Master rifleman
Master commando
Master marksman
Pistoleer 0003 (got root?
)
Mods:
Ranged speed: 55
Ranged acc: 210
Rifle speed - 65 + 55 = 120
Rifle acc - 85 + 210 = 295
Heavy wp speed - 45 + 55 = 100
Heavy wp acc - 55 + 55 = 110
Ranged def: 180 (210, 230)
Melee def: 155 (185, 205)

I actually think the CU is very much a give-and-take for Riflebeings. We lose AOE's, but can pick them up form parallel professions, so that's only an issue for single-combat-profs (players with Ranger, Entertainer or crafting as their second profs). We lose the advantage of being able to target mind, but this gives us a level playing field with everyone else, and helps us as much as it hurts us, since we won't be on the receiving end of mind attacks either. Rifle certing (especially for progression) is a bit screwed up still, but is a relatively easy fix, so aside from reporting it, I'm not overly concerned about it being a lasting issue.
We gain:
Invisibility (once they get /cover and /conceal working properly together, especially if it stacks with Ranger concealment skills - here's to hoping)
Greater range than other weapons (it may not be 90m, but it's still morethan pistols or carbines)
Damage types - no more kinetic gap to worry about when fighting Nightsisters!
I must admit, I'm not 100% taken with Rifle on its own, but then I was always a combo class anyway (Rifles/Pikes, whereas now I'll be Rifles/other ranged), and the ability to use other profession skills with my rifle makes it a fearsome weapon indeed.
