Thread: ranged accuracy worthless?

as everyone with a high enough CL can now use any weapon that is not directly assigned to a profession i made some tests.

i was shooting with a Berserker Rifle on a Stormtrooper (CL24) with the basic ranged shot:

as Master Rifleman (CL54) = 320 damage
as Master Rifleman (CL80) = 331 damage
as TKMaster w/o ranged skills (CL80) = 235 damage

Ok, our rifle skills gave us around 1/3 more damage than a melee combatant w/o any ranged skills. But what was amazing as TKM i got 25 hits from 27 shots. and i guess the 2 misses came from some defensive moves of the Stormie. So i hit more then 90% with a template without any ranged skills. is there any use of accuracy left in this game?

The use is exactly as you described: you hit for more effect, i.e. higher damage. Same goes with range - closer or farther, your chances of hitting don't really change, just your damage. So while "accuracy" is now really a misnomer, it is still useful - just not the way you'd think.

How does accuracy work in the new system? It seems like the to-hit is affected more by difference in CL than it is by profession mods.

Accuracy does two things:

  • Determines probability of hitting the target.
  • If your accuracy is greater than defensive skills of your target, you do additional damage.

Level difference between the player and the target also has an effect on hitting and damage done.

Last line is the key, I solo'ed a CL 105 stormtrooper (with root, otherwise it was impossible), and missed like hell (6-7 missed shots in a row)as rifle/doc.
