Thread: post CU rifle question about range...

during the CU there was talk that rifleman would be able to attack out past the 64m barrier...that limit would be stretched as far as possible (possibly to the 120m range if I had to guess).

Also, rifleman would NOT be able to attack up close at all...this sounded fine if they stretched the range even though it would cause problems in dungeon type places...

However yesterday I respec'd to rifleman (been a pistol person since launch and it is time fora change) and I noticed that I can attack things at 1m hell I can even lay prone and sniper shot something at 1m...

Is the attacking at close quarters a trade off for not being able to attack past the 64m barrier or is it a bug?

thanks! and I look forward to being a rifleman in SWG!

You can get cybernetic arms that will let you shoot past the 65m mark, but it is unclear whether this is intended or not.

Not being able to shoot at close range would be ridiculous and I'm glad they didn't do anything about that.

Going prone to allow you to (sometimes) get off a snipershot is a good idea, but bear in mind it will take you a little longer if you need to run away - you've got to stand before you can run!

  1. Yeah no extra range

  2. no min range

  3. 1m is allowed and not a bug

It's not a "bug", but it may have been unintended. Ackehece has asked and was told it wasn't intended (I believe) and yet nothing has been done about it.

So it's not bugged, but try not to become reliant on it, because they may take it away from us.

Correct. They could not get thecombatsystem to work reliably past 64m so that is the effective limit. If a weapon or system allows firing past that point it is unintended and could be classified a bug. Have fun with it but do not rely on it as the issue is being currently looked into.

lol seems to me "if it aint broke, dont fix it". it seems to work, it IS a +10 range so why not just let it go!!! maybe they actualy did something RIGHT!!

ok where do you get the cybernetic arms, cuz i just picked SWG back up after 10 months of WoW and respecced back to MR ( i had switched to BH when they made it easy to become one) i really want to be able to hit something with an advanced sniper shot from 75m away with a 500dps weapon /drool

DPS is meaningless for Snipershot. You want the rifle with the highest numbers in raw damage, to get multiplied by the large multiplier on snipershot. The cooldown on the skill will ensure that it will never recharge faster than the weapon's recycle rate anyway.
DPS is a bit more meaningful for shots like Headshot, though.

You can start the +5 arm quest in the Cantina at Bestine, on Tatooine. It's fairly straightforward, fairly long, but quite a bit of fun to play through for yourself, so I'm not giving out the instructions.

If the +10 range arms are intended not to work with rifles then they need to be removed completely.

No, they don't. Adding extra range for pistols and carbines is fine. But they should code it in a way such that whilst using a weapon that already has a max range of 65m (rifle or otherwise) you get *some other bonus* instead of the additional range.
My choice would be an additional doubling of the accuracy boost, so that the +5 arms boost your accuracy by +15 when wielding a weapon with a 65m range. That's the standard +5, plus an additional +10 alternate boost.

It's not fair to strip the idea from the game entirely, but if we're not to benefit from it, there MUST BE an alternative bonus for us.
