I grinded on scout traps for a long time to get myself to novice weaponsmith just so I would be able to build a better bowcaster. This gave me one experiment point to spend, which I put into damage. I don't have the stats on hand, but my 'caster is slightly less damaging than a heavily experimented DLT20a, and has a speed around 7.3 or so I believe. I'll get the exact numbers in a few mins, but in general I think that a master weaponsmith wookiee using decent resources and experimenting fully will make very nice bowcasters. At this point, I use mine on occasion for the heck of it, and try to have it equipped when I am running around town...

My Bowcaster stats:
-------------------
Condition: 104
Damage: 88-164
Wound Chance: 15.96
Ideal/Max Range: 45/64
Range Mods: 30/8/-80
Speed: 7.6
HAM Costs: 49/48/61
Again, this was with only 1 experiment point, and some very low quality doonium iron and quadranium steel (all I had available). A "real" weaponsmith could experiment on damage and HAM costs, and make a pretty fine weapon, IMO.
Have fun!

Oh yeah, forgot to specifically mention the condition being low. As I understand it, this currently effects Bowcasters and another rifle (SG82?). Some people consider it to be a bug, I am not sure whether it is or not. It is a bit of a pain, but I have used mine a fair bit and the condition is only down to 73/104 (avoiding overcharge shot of course). Will be nice to get some further information on this in the future.
